But that\u2019s exactly what happened when 71-year-old Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. teamed up with 45-year-old Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"workout\" data-node-id=\"1.1\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">workout<\/a> they\u2019ve dubbed the &#8216;Pete and Bobby Challenge&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"4\" class=\"css-qrfdb emevuu60\">The premise is simple: 50 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/fitness\/a65328116\/new-pull-up-world-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/fitness\/a65328116\/new-pull-up-world-record\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"pull-ups\" data-node-id=\"4.1\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pull-ups<\/a> and 100 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a65021330\/how-many-push-ups-build-muscle\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a65021330\/how-many-push-ups-build-muscle\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"push-ups\" data-node-id=\"4.3\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">push-ups<\/a>. The catch? All the reps must be completed in under five minutes. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"6\" class=\"css-qrfdb emevuu60\">The pair filmed their attempt at the Pentagon Athletic Centre, then swiftly uploaded the footage to social media. Of the pull-up form on display, Nippard says, &#8216;This is one of the worst (and most common) pull-up mistakes I see guys make: refusing assistance. It takes an ego check to use a pull-up machine, a band or a partner for assistance, but serious lifters find it respectable. Acknowledge your current strength level and build from there.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"14\" class=\"css-qrfdb emevuu60\">Nippard\u2019s advice puts the challenge in a different light. While some may be fired up to match the politicians&#8217; feat, it\u2019s important to note that strict pull-ups at that volume are a reach, to say the least. Without scaling the load by using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/gym-wear\/a31910685\/resistance-bands\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/gym-wear\/a31910685\/resistance-bands\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"bands\" data-node-id=\"14.1\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">bands<\/a>, partners, or assisted machines, most gym-goers will gas out early, reduce  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/train-smarter\/a61569461\/range-of-motion\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/train-smarter\/a61569461\/range-of-motion\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"range of motion\" data-node-id=\"14.3\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">range of motion<\/a>, or worse, risk injury.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"16\" class=\"css-qrfdb emevuu60\">If you do want to recreate the Pete and Bobby Challenge, you can scale the reps and take breaks when needed to avoid form brea down. You may be skipping the bravado by ditching the timer and completing the reps throughout your workout, but you&#8217;re more likely to improve your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"muscle and strength gains\" data-node-id=\"16.1\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">muscle and strength gains<\/a>.
