For better or worse, we live in an increasingly digital world where your cell phone is capable of far more than just texting and calling.<\/p>\n
Now, Apple iPhone and Watch users in 10 states<\/a>, plus Puerto Rico, can use their phone in place of their physical driver\u2019s license in some instances, according to Apple. Those 10 states are Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico and Ohio.<\/p>\n iPhone users in these states can add their driver\u2019s license to their Apple Wallet, which can be used in place of your physical copy at select TSA checkpoints.<\/p>\n To get started, you\u2019ll need an iPhone 8 or newer that is running iOS 16.5 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 4 or later with watchOS 9.5 or later, according to Apple<\/a>. You\u2019ll also need to have your Face ID or Touch ID turned on, if it isn\u2019t already, as well as two-factor authentication.<\/p>\n On the iPhone, open the Wallet app, select \u201cDriver\u2019s License or State ID\u201d and choose your state. Follow the instructions to scan both the front and back of your license or ID, for which Apple suggests using a well-lit area and a simple dark background.<\/p>\n On the Apple Watch, use your iPhone to open the Watch app and then tap the \u201cMy Watch\u201d tab. Scroll down, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, and locate your license or ID in your Apple Wallet. Then tap the \u201cAdd\u201d button next to your license or ID and follow the instructions.<\/p>\n Once you\u2019ve added your digital driver\u2019s license to your Apple Wallet, you can present it by holding your device near the identity reader when presented. You can then tap \u201cVerify\u201d on your phone to confirm the information presented is correct, according to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n In addition to Apple Wallet, TSA also accepts<\/a> digital IDs using Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet and other state mobile identification apps, depending on the state.
