Gov. Kathy Hochul pushed President Trump not to send\u00a0the National Guard to New York<\/a>\u00a0in a recent phone call, highlighting the city\u2019s decline in crime, she revealed Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The phone conversation \u2013 which Hochul initiated Saturday, insiders said \u2013 unfolded as Trump floated sending troops to Chicago and New York City after deploying the\u00a0military on the streets of Washington, DC<\/a>\u00a0to crack down on crime.<\/p>\n

Hochul, during an event in Harlem, recounted her soft-touch attempts to dissuade Trump from sending troops to the Big Apple, while also attacking the president\u2019s recent executive order on cashless bail that targeted blue states like New York.<\/p>\n

Hochul has also been sparring with Trump on bail reform. James Keivom<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what he\u2019ll do,\u201d she said as she shrugged.<\/p>\n

Trump, when asked by The Post later Tuesday about his call with Hochul, said he\u2019d love to send troops \u2013 so long as the governor needs the help.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d love to do it, if she\u2019d like,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cI get along with Kathy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to make this like, friendly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump deployed the National Guard in the nation\u2019s capital to crackdown on rampant crime, although many critics have argued his claims are overblown\u00a0and\u00a0deemed it an \u201cauthoritarian push.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

The president has repeatedly said that Chicago will be the next major city to receive a surge in federal policing to fight crime, followed by his hometown.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Chicago will be our next [stop] and then we\u2019ll help with New York,\u201d the Queens native\u00a0said last week<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

New York City has seen a dramatic decline in crime, with shootings\u00a0plunging to all-time lows\u00a0<\/a>so far this year. The latest NYPD statistics showed\u00a0nearly all major felonies were down<\/a>\u00a0almost 5% compared to 2024.<\/p>\n

Hochul \u2013 who\u00a0controversially deployed the state\u2019s National Guard<\/a>\u00a0in the subway system to tackle transit crime \u2014 said she gently tried to dissuade Trump from pulling a similar military move.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was very gracious,\u201d she said. \u201cI just said, \u2018I\u2019ll tell you what, Mr. President, if I think I need help from the National Guard on the stuff I\u2019m already doing I know where to find them.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI had that conversation, I said, \u2018Mr. President, I can give you all the data to show that crime is down. It\u2019s working. Our policies are working. NYPD is doing their job.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Kathy Hochul said her conversation with the president didn\u2019t giver her any clarity on whether NYC would face the same treatment as DC. AP<\/p>\n

Mayor Eric Adams likewise rebuffed the suggestion that New York needed Trump to send the National Guard, saying \u201cwe got this\u201d \u2013 and even offering to help other cities with their crime problems.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the federal government wants to communicate with us and ask us to go to other municipalities and help them see what we\u2019re doing, we\u2019re willing to do that,\u201d he told Bloomberg\u2019s Businessweek Daily.<\/p>\n

Roughly 1,000 National Guard troops are still deployed in the subways, governor\u2019s officials said.<\/p>\n

The governor, who is seeking re-election next year, has more fiercely struck back on the Trump administration targeting New York on\u00a0congestion pricing<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>sanctuary city policies<\/a>\u00a0and his\u00a0immigration crackdown<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hochul, in that vein, also again\u00a0ripped Trump\u2019s executive order\u00a0<\/a>aiming to stop cashless bail \u2013 a directive largely aimed at New York.<\/p>\n

She contended the order wouldn\u2019t apply to the Empire State \u2013 which has largely eliminated cash bail for misdemeanors and non-violent felonies.<\/p>\n

Murder, rape and robbery, along with a slew of other violent, sexual and grievous felonies are bail eligible, despite the state\u2019s controversial 2019 bail reforms signed by then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president is wrong. He\u2019s flat out wrong,\u201d Hochul argued. \u201cWe don\u2019t have cashless bail in. New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has no concept of how our laws work here\u2026 He\u2019s just trying to throw gasoline on a fire,\u201d she said. \u201cI think he\u2019s going after blue states, Democratic states, states with Democratic governors, states with Democratic mayors. It\u2019s just part of a larger strategy to create chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump, for his part, called cashless bail a tragedy and maintained New York led the misguided charge.<\/p>\n
