Spaun, recent U.S. Open champion, has withdrawn from the 2025 Rocket Classic in Detroit.<\/li>\n<li>Spaun, now ranked 8th in the world, cited his U.S. Open victory as the reason for withdrawing.<\/li>\n<li>Despite Spaun&#8217;s absence, the Rocket Classic field still boasts top players like Collin Morikawa and Hideki Matsuyama.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/pga\/2025\/06\/18\/travelers-championship-2025-jj-spaun-us-open-win-emotions\/84261579007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J.J. Spaun<\/a> said he would take some time to enjoy his victory at the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/golf\/pga\/us-open\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Open<\/a>, and he&#8217;s making good on his word.<\/p>\n<p>But it means that he won&#8217;t participate in Detroit&#8217;s biggest golf event.<\/p>\n<p>As confirmed by tournament officials, Spaun, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/2025\/06\/15\/j-j-spaun-wins-us-open-watch-winning-putt\/84222900007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won his first major<\/a> at the 2025 U.S. Open on Sunday, June 15, pulled his name off the commitment list ahead of the 2025 Rocket Classic in Detroit.<\/p>\n<p>Spaun is currently playing at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut, but was 5-over par through 14 holes in Round 2 and near the bottom of the leaderboard for the no-cut event.<\/p>\n<p>With the U.S. Open win, Spaun rocketed 17 spots up the world rankings, currently at No. 8. That made him the second-highest-ranked golfer committed to the Rocket Classic after Collin Morikawa, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/2025\/05\/19\/rocket-mortgage-classic-collin-morikawa-detroit\/83729500007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced his commitment<\/a> on May 19.<\/p>\n<p>Recent commitments to the Rocket Classic have included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/2025\/06\/18\/2024-rocket-classic-runner-up-akshay-bhatia-commits-to-2025-classic\/84267155007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Akshay Bhatia<\/a>, the runner-up in the 2024 Classic, and former Masters champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/2025\/06\/19\/hideki-matsuyama-commits-to-2025-rocket-classic-in-detroit\/84276215007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hideki Matsuyama<\/a>, the No. 11 golfer in the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">MORE GOLF NEWS: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/2025\/06\/19\/hideki-matsuyama-commits-to-2025-rocket-classic-in-detroit\/84276215007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">World No. 11 Hideki Matsuyama commits to 2025 Rocket Classic in Detroit<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tournament officials shared this statement regarding Spaun&#8217;s participation:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe congratulate J.J.
