THE BRONX, New York (WABC) — An outbreak of gun violence erupted over an eight-hour span Monday in the Bronx, where four separate shootings left two people dead, and another two injured, including an Amazon delivery worker.<\/p>\n
That worker, a 31-year-old man, was caught in a crossfire when two individuals began shooting at each other at the corner of Bryant Avenue and East Tremont Avenue in the West Farms section just after 2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
A neighbor said she heard two gunshots, followed by five. She says the scary part is that the shooting happened during the time of day when kids would be getting out of school in just a few days. There’s an elementary school right across the street — P.S. 6.<\/p>\n
The victim, who police believe was not the intended target, was shot in the ankle while sitting in his truck.<\/p>\n
“He’s working. Doing his business and not involved, and gets put into something he had nothing to do with,” said a neighbor named Ellie.<\/p>\n
The driver was taken to St. Barnabas in stable condition.<\/p>\n
“Our team is working with the driver’s employer to support them however we can, and cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate,” Amazon said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The driver works for a logistics company, Logistics Xpress, contracted by Amazon. Eyewitness News spoke with his manager, who came right to the scene when he heard what happened.<\/p>\n
“I was scared. I started shaking, to be honest. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know how to feel. I just came here right away,” said Logistics Xpress manager Younes Ayed.<\/p>\n
The manager says the 31-year-old driver didn’t see who fired those shots, but called to say he’d been wounded.<\/p>\n
“He just was like, ‘I just heard shots, and I just felt it in my ankle,'”Ayed said. “It’s sad to go through something like this. He’s just out here making money, trying to figure out a living and just something like this happens to you, it’s unexpected.”<\/p>\n
It was the third shooting in the Bronx on Monday, coming after two deadly shootings earlier in the day.<\/p>\n
At 8:10 a.m., a 32-year-old man, identified as Clay Monsanto, was shot in the back and killed<\/a> at 1853 Anthony Ave. in the Tremont section.<\/p>\n A search is underway for the suspect who shot and killed a man in the Bronx on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n Several hours later around 1:10 p.m., a 34-year-old man, identified as Kelvin Mosquea was found with a gunshot wound to his torso in front of 710 Croes Ave. in the Soundview section. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, were he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n A fourth shooting happened outside of 2216 Adams Pl. in the Belmont section, where a 26-year-old man suffered two gunshot wounds to his leg. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.<\/p>\n In addition, shots were fired on two separate occasions in the Bronx, but no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n Hospitals in Bronx have been very busy treating shooting victims this month, despite a citywide drop in gun violence in July, and assurances from state and city leaders that the NYPD doesn’t need help right now from the National Guard.<\/p>\n “I don’t see the need for it, at all. We are doing an amazing job,” Mayor Eric Adams said. “We know what to do here, and we will continue to do that.”<\/p>\n RELATED | Mayor Eric Adams rejects Trump’s call for federal troops to fight crime in NYC<\/a><\/p>\n President Donald Trump has threatened to send National Guard troops, as he has in Washington, D.C., into other cities with Democratic governors and mayors.<\/p>\n On Monday, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch told Attorney General Pam Bondi there’s no need for them here<\/a>.<\/p>\n A day later, Governor Kathy Hochul defended her deployments of New York National Guard troops into the subway to beef up public safety visibility, and said she spoke with Trump directly<\/a>.<\/p>\n “I said, ‘Mr. President, I can give you all the data you need to show that crime is down. It’s working. Our policies are working.
