{"id":179473,"date":"2025-08-27T10:27:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T10:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/179473\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T10:27:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T10:27:12","slug":"denmark-summons-us-envoy-after-report-of-americans-carrying-out-influence-operations-in-greenland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/179473\/","title":{"rendered":"Denmark summons US envoy after report of Americans carrying out influence operations in Greenland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) \u2014 Denmark\u2019s foreign minister had the top U.S. diplomat in the country summoned for talks after the main national broadcaster reported Wednesday that at least three people with connections to President Donald Trump have been carrying out covert influence operations in <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/greenland-trump-independence-election-denmark-china-russia-c86afc33375d0fe260f065a662e04b57\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Greenland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has repeatedly said he seeks U.S. jurisdiction over Greenland, a vast, semi-autonomous territory of Denmark. He has not <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hegseth-greenland-signal-congress-295b03478d985678c4f2bf2eb5b513ba\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ruled out military force<\/a> to take control of the mineral-rich, <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/denmark-king-greenland-trump-arctic-minerals-security-25eb39ea5202ec83afbb76093326d62d\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">strategically located Arctic island<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Denmark, a NATO ally of the U.S., and Greenland have said the island is <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/greenland-trump-denmark-us-87b669843fc1edc2c40cea47e6a40043\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not for sale<\/a> and condemned reports of the U.S. <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/denmark-us-greenland-spying-7f7e75e3d0985b2e1ee38a9fc426e17d\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gathering intelligence<\/a> there.<\/p>\n<p>Danish public broadcaster DR reported Wednesday that government and security sources which it didn\u2019t name, as well as unidentified sources in Greenland and the U.S., believe that at least three Americans with connections to Trump have been carrying out covert influence operations in the territory. <\/p>\n<p>One of those people allegedly compiled a list of U.S.-friendly Greenlanders, collected names of people opposed to Trump and got locals to point out cases that could be used to cast Denmark in a bad light in American media. Two others have tried to nurture contacts with politicians, businesspeople and locals, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>An influence operation is an organized effort to shape how people in a society think in order to achieve certain political, military or other objectives.<\/p>\n<p>DR said its story was based on information from a total of eight sources, who believe the goal is to weaken relations with Denmark from within Greenlandic society.<\/p>\n<p>DR said it had been unable to clarify whether the Americans were working at their own initiative or on orders from someone else. It said it knows their names but chose not to publish them in order to protect its sources.
