\n\tAs reactions to Taylor Swift<\/a> and Travis Kelce<\/a>\u2018s recent engagement continue to pour in, one of Swift\u2019s loudest detractors is weighing in on the news \u2014 President Donald Trump. <\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a Tuesday (Aug. 26) cabinet meeting, the president was asked by a reporter for his reaction to the news of Swift and Kelce\u2019s engagement. \u201cWell, I wish them a lot of luck,\u201d the president said. \u201cI think he\u2019s a great player, I think he\u2019s a great guy, and she\u2019s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSwift and Kelce announced their engagement via a joint Instagram<\/a> post on Tuesday, with the photos showing the pair together in a lush garden and showing off Swift\u2019s new engagement ring. \u201cYour English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,\u201d the caption read.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe president\u2019s reaction marks a stark shift in tone from his past comments<\/a> on Swift, who the twice-impeached head of state has openly mocked on multiple occasions. Famously, after Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris\u2019 run for the White House in 2024, Trump posted<\/a> on his Truth Social account \u201cI HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tMost recently, the president compared Swift to actress Sydney Sweeney, as the latter starred in a controversial American Eagle ad that was publicly criticized and compared to racist Nazi propoganda. \u201cSydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the \u2018HOTTEST\u2019 ad out there. It\u2019s for American Eagle, and the jeans are \u2018flying off the shelves. Go get \u2018em Sydney!\u201d the president wrote, before criticizing Swift. \u201cJust look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can\u2019t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSwift herself has been an outspoken critic of the commander in chief, referring to his first term in office as an \u201cautocracy\u201d during a 2019 interview<\/a> with The Guardian. In a 2020 <\/a>p<\/a>o<\/a>s<\/a>t<\/a> <\/a>o<\/a>n<\/a> <\/a>X<\/a>, Swift vowed to \u201cvote [Trump] out in November,\u201d while criticizing his response to the George Floyd protests. \u201cAfter stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence?\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n
