{"id":179897,"date":"2025-08-27T14:13:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T14:13:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/179897\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T14:13:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T14:13:15","slug":"cracker-barrel-will-ditch-new-woke-logo-after-backlash-from-trump-and-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/179897\/","title":{"rendered":"Cracker Barrel will ditch new \u2018woke\u2019 logo after backlash from Trump and others"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After suffering more than a week of online backlash to its new streamlined logo design \u2014 and a sharp drop in its stock price \u2014 the Cracker Barrel restaurant chain agreed to use its old logo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;We said we would listen, and we have,&#8221; the company <a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CrackerBarrel\/status\/1960475658116632865?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1960475658116632865%7Ctwgr%5E024247d7053d7a1d9516d5a56126f704ac5766c6%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.huffpost.com%2Fentry%2Fcracker-barrel-dumps-new-hated-logo-after-outcry_n_68ae3861e4b06cda8b4aed52\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:announced in a statement;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">announced in a statement<\/a>. \u201cOur new logo is going away and our \u2018Old Timer\u2019 will remain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The move came just hours after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/people\/donald-trump\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:President Trump;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">President Trump<\/a> <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/115095579197949665\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:weighed in;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">weighed in<\/a> on the controversy, urging the company to \u201cgo back to the old logo\u201d and \u201cadmit a mistake based on customer response (the ultimate Poll).\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Citing his own experience in business and politics, Trump framed the flap as a great opportunity to \u201cmanage the company better than ever before.\u201c<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Cracker Barrel&#8217;s stock was up 2.5% Wednesday on the news.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Previously, the Southern-flavored chain had said only that it \u201ccould\u2019ve done a better job sharing who we are and who we\u2019ll always be,&#8221; adding that \u201cthe last few days have shown us \u2026 how deeply people care about Cracker Barrel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It was an optimistic take on what had been by any measure a fraught period for the retro roadside restaurant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The trouble started last week when CEO Julie Felss Masino and her team unveiled the new logo \u2014 a simple gold shield with the restaurant\u2019s name in a brown, more contemporary font \u2014 as part of a rebranding campaign that also saw them flying social media influencers to Manhattan to visit a slick pop-up location and attend a country music concert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Felss, a veteran of Starbucks and Taco Bell, was recruited to shake up the chain, which had been receiving middling marks on food, value, experience and convenience \u2014 and attracting 16% less traffic last year than in 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But her recent move backfired spectacularly, sparking a culture war firestorm that saw some fans accusing Cracker Barrel of abandoning its Americana roots in favor of a sanitized \u2014 even \u201cwoke\u201d \u2014 new look.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Cracker Barrel's new logo, soon to be scrapped\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1816d760-8275-11f0-afff-43a4804544dd.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Cracker Barrel&#8217;s new logo, soon to be scrapped. (Courtesy of Cracker Barrel)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Much of the meltdown focused on Felss&#8217;s decision to update the Tennessee chain\u2019s longstanding logo: \u200bits rustic illustration of an actual barrel and \u2014 even more galling, according to detractors \u2014 the seated man in overalls who had been casually draping his arm over said barrel ever since the design was first sketched by a Nashville artist in 1977.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The sweeping $700 million makeover also included a revamped menu and \u201cdecluttered\u201d dining rooms, with fewer knickknacks on the walls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Felss \u201cscrapped a beloved American aesthetic and replaced it with sterile, soulless branding,\u201d snapped the Woke War Room on X. \u201cShe should resign and be replaced with leadership that will restore Cracker Barrel\u2019s tradition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The criticism quickly became political after Donald Trump Jr. shared the Woke War Room\u2019s message. Soon conservative activists were <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/24\/us-news\/cracker-barrel-board-member-under-fire-for-dei-background-after-restaurant-ditches-traditional-logo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:accusing Cracker Barrel board members of being DEI activists;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">accusing Cracker Barrel board members of being DEI activists<\/a> and <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thebulwark.com\/p\/how-chris-rufo-stopped-worrying-and-learned-to-love-cancel-culture\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:telling followers they must \u201cbreak the Barrel\u201d through boycotts;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">telling followers they must \u201cbreak the Barrel\u201d through boycotts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Even rival chain Steak \u2018n Shake <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SteaknShake\/status\/1958584823217578214\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:said on X;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">said on X<\/a> that it \u201cwould never market ourselves away from our past in a cheap effort to gain the approval of trend seekers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">To reassure its customers, Cracker Barrel first insisted on Monday that its iconic old-timer \u2014 officially known as &#8220;Uncle Herschel&#8221; \u2014 was \u201cnot going anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe love seeing how much you care about our \u2018old timer.\u2019 We love him too,\u201d the company said in its initial statement. \u201cUncle Herschel will still be on our menu (welcome back, Uncle Herschel\u2019s Favorite Breakfast Platter), on our road signs, and featured in our country store.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Cracker Barrel\u2019s nostalgic vibe would stay the same too, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe things people love most about our stores aren\u2019t going anywhere [either]: rocking chairs on the porch, a warm fire in the hearth, peg games on the table, unique treasures in our gift shop, and vintage Americana with antiques pulled straight from our warehouse in Lebanon, Tennessee,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But Uncle Herschel (and his barrel) did not return to the logo itself until Trump intervened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201dThey got a Billion Dollars worth of free publicity if they play their cards right,\u201c the president wrote Tuesday on his Truth Social network. \u201cVery tricky to do, but a great opportunity.
