{"id":180869,"date":"2025-08-27T22:44:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T22:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/180869\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T22:44:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T22:44:10","slug":"short-term-deal-extension-averting-fox-news-blackout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/180869\/","title":{"rendered":"Short-Term Deal Extension, Averting Fox News Blackout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/fox-news\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fox-news\" data-tag=\"fox-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>, local TV stations and other <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/fox-corp\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fox-corp\" data-tag=\"fox-corp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox Corp.<\/a>-owned networks will remain on <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/youtube-tv\/\" id=\"auto-tag_youtube-tv\" data-tag=\"youtube-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube TV<\/a> \u2014 for now \u2014 after the parties agreed to a short-term extension to their previous contract, as talks on a renewal continue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe have reached a short-term extension with Fox to prevent disruption to YouTube TV subscribers as we continue to work on a new agreement,\u201d YouTube said in an update Wednesday. \u201cWe are committed to advocating on behalf of our subscribers as we work toward a fair deal and will keep you updated on our progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA rep for Fox Corp. confirmed the sides agreed to a short-term extension. The previous YouTube TV carriage agreement with Fox Corp. was set to expire Wednesday (Aug. 27) at 5 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSuch contract disputes have been a regular feature of the pay-TV business for decades. Fox Corp. claimed that Google, YouTube\u2019s parent, had proposed \u201cterms that are out of step with the marketplace\u201d \u2014 indicating the fight hinges on Fox Corp. seeking higher programming fees from the internet giant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tJust hours before the prior YouTube TV-Fox Corp. agreement was due to end, YouTube announced a deal with Herring Networks to <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/youtube-tv-pro-trump-oan-fox-news-contract-expire-1236499981\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">carry right-wing outlet OAN on YouTube TV<\/a> starting in the fourth quarter of 2025. The addition of unabashedly pro-Trump OAN to YouTube TV may have been a bargaining tactic \u2014 that is, an attempt to persuade Fox Corp. to agree to renewal terms \u2014 or it could be aimed at softening the blow for MAGA supporters if Fox News is removed from YouTube TV\u2019s lineup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFox Corp. on Monday began <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/youtube-tv-fox-news-local-tv-fox-corp-carriage-dispute-1236498158\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning viewers of a potential blackout of its channels on YouTube TV<\/a>. The company called out big upcoming sporting events in its messaging: \u201cYouTube TV customers could be deprived of some of the fall\u2019s biggest television sporting events, including NFL on Fox, College Football on Fox, FS1 and Big Ten Network, and MLB on Fox and FS1,\u201d the company says on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keepfox.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">keepfox.com<\/a>, a special-purpose website set up for the contract fight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a previous message to subscribers, YouTube TV said it was \u201cactively negotiating to reach a fair deal for both sides, as well as our subscribers.\u201d YouTube TV subs will be eligible to receive a $10 credit to if Fox\u2019s content goes dark \u201cfor an extended period of time\u201d as a result of the contract fight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFox Corp. channels available on YouTube TV are: Fox local stations; BTN; Fox Business; Fox Deportes; Fox News; Fox Soccer Plus; Fox Soul; Fox Sports 1 (FS1) and Fox Sports 2 (FS2); Fox Weather; KTVU Plus; and LiveNow from Fox. In addition, the companies\u2019 agreement covers Fox Nation as an optional add-on to YouTube TV for $7.99 per month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tYouTube TV had an estimated 9.5 million customers as of the end of 2024, according to research firm MoffettNathanson. That makes it the biggest internet-delivered pay TV provider in the U.S. In December, YouTube <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/digital\/news\/youtube-tv-raises-price-increase-2024-1236247063\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hiked the price of its base subscription plan by 14%<\/a>, raising it from $72.99 to $82.99 per month, because of \u201cthe rising cost of content,\u201d according to YouTube.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tYouTube TV has clashed in contract disputes with programmers before. In February 2025, YouTube TV\u00a0and\u00a0Paramount Global\u00a0(now Paramount Skydance) renewed their <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/paramount-youtube-tv-reach-distribution-deal-averting-blackout-1236309622\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agreement to carry CBS\u00a0stations nationwide and more than 20 other channels<\/a> after <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/digital\/news\/youtube-tv-dispute-paramount-cbs-comedy-central-mtv-1236306040\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contentious deal talks became public<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn 2021, YouTube TV subscribers experienced <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/digital\/news\/disney-youtube-tv-renewal-1235138299\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a two-day blackout of Disney channels<\/a>\u00a0before the parties reached an agreement.
