Two days after Gov. JB Pritzker warned President Donald Trump not to send National Guard troops to Chicago, billboard trucks echoing the governor’s words circled Trump Tower. <\/p>\n
Billboard trucks with Pritzker’s words “Do Not Come to Chicago” launched Wednesday, paid for by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. The billboards also carried the phrase “Fascists are not welcome” with a QR code\u00a0directing people to the ACLU Illinois\u2019 website.<\/p>\n
Trump has warned multiple times that Chicago could be the next city where he plans to deploy the National Guard or even, the “regular military” to help tackle crime in the city. <\/p>\n
The president referred to Chicago as a \u201ckilling field,” despite city statistics showing crime has decreased.<\/p>\n
On Monday, Pritzker warned the president not to come to Chicago.<\/p>\n
“If you hurt my people, nothing will stop me — not time or political circumstance — from making sure that you face justice under our constitutional rule of law,” he said. <\/p>\n
The trucks drove around Trump Tower and other areas downtown Chicago. The committee’s billboard campaign began last week in Washington D.C. with a video calling the Trump administration’s actions \u201cunprecedented,” “unnecessary” and “unlawful,” according to a news release. <\/p>\n
The organization plans to expand billboards to other big cities where the president has indicated plans to deploy National Guard members. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Two days after Gov.
