LOWER MERION TWP., Pa. (WPVI) — A Merion Station<\/a> resident says she feels unsafe in her own home after someone walked onto her property and stole a sign expressing support for Israel.<\/p>\n

Sue Kane said the incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. last Tuesday on Heath Road. A neighbor witnessed the theft and took a photo of the suspect, which Kane later shared on Facebook. She also contacted Lower Merion police.<\/p>\n

“I’m a big supporter of Israel, I’ve been there many times, my son served in the IDF,” Kane said.<\/p>\n

Lower Merion Police Superintendent Andy Block said the social media post prompted another resident in the Bala Cynwyd section of the township to report a similar incident that occurred on May 19. That resident also provided photos of the suspect, which investigators believe depict the same individual.<\/p>\n

“Somebody out there knows who this individual is,” Block said.<\/p>\n

Police said the suspect could face charges, including criminal trespassing and theft. They also described the incidents as antisemitic.<\/p>\n

“Listen, in the United States, you have a First Amendment right to support the causes that you want to support,” Kane said. “I consider this a hate crime.”<\/p>\n

Authorities are asking anyone who may have experienced similar thefts to come forward. Police said they will investigate all reports and share them with the Anti-Defamation League, which tracks antisemitic incidents.<\/p>\n
