Austin Butler<\/a> believes in practicality. <\/p>\n

And the Oscar nominee\u2019s forward thinking led to some interesting antics on the set of his new film “Caught Stealing,” including spending the night on set in just his underwear. <\/p>\n

\u201cI had a night where I had to get up early the next day,\u201d Butler exclusively told E! News at the film\u2019s New York City premiere Aug. 26, \u201cand it seemed like there was a cozy bed that I could sleep in.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old joked, \u201cMight as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

But as Butler explained, it\u2019s not as if he was sleeping in an actual apartment where they were filming the Darren Aronofsky-directed movie, which hits theaters Aug. 29.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe filmed in Brooklyn and it was a sound stage,\u201d he noted, \u201cwhich is inherently \u2014 it feels very fake.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, spending all that time in New York City and filming in other outdoor locations like the East Village, Coney Island and Brighton Beach meant that the “Elvis” actor truly got the full Big Apple experience. <\/p>\n

As he quipped in the interview, airing on E! News Aug. 27, at 11 p.m, \u201cFilming in the East Village all night long, you see some characters.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Butler spent a lot of time watching those \u201ccharacters\u201d alongside costar Zo\u00eb Kravitz<\/a>, whom he had nothing but the utmost love and respect for. <\/p>\n

\u201cAs a collaborator,\u201d he gushed, \u201cshe\u2019s just so smart.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was especially thrilling working alongside the 36-year-old, as Butler was a huge fan of her \u201camazing\u201d 2024 directorial debut, “Blink Twice.” <\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s a great director,\u201d Butler added. \u201cThat\u2019s a gift when you\u2019re acting with somebody who can actually come up with ideas and write the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Butler was feeling particularly modest, noting that he\u2019s \u201cnot like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s so smart,\u201d he continued. \u201cShe\u2019s smarter than me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Off screen, he\u2019s also been lucky enough to witness how Kravitz interacts with those around her. <\/p>\n

\u201cI remember one of the first times I hung out I saw how maternal she was towards her friend,\u201d he recalled. \u201cShe looked out for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
