The officer \u201cattempted to inform management of the law, but they refused to listen,\u201d the lawsuit reads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Attorney General Ken Paxton said the venue\u2019s action <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/peace-officers-carrying-weapon-on-certain-premises#:~:text=052%20of%20the%20Texas%20Code,carry%2C%20regardless%20of%20whether%20the\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/peace-officers-carrying-weapon-on-certain-premises#:~:text=052%20of%20the%20Texas%20Code,carry%2C%20regardless%20of%20whether%20the\">violates a Texas law,<\/a> which states \u201can establishment serving the public may not prohibit or restrict a peace officer from carrying on the establishment\u2019s premises regardless if they are on or off-duty.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">San Antonio police were called to the scene and informed the venue\u2019s management of the law, but they \u201cadamantly refused to comply,\u201d the lawsuit states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Paxton also noted that establishments that do not comply with this law face a $1,000 civil penalty for each violation, according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Prior to the filing, Paxton said his office sent a letter to the venue to get them to comply. However, they didn\u2019t reply within a 15-day timeframe, which prompted the filing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Now, the lawsuit \u2014 filed in the Bexar County District Court against Empty Stomach, LP \u2014 seeks civil penalties and a court order for the music venue to comply with the law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/emptystomach.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/emptystomach.org\/\">Empty Stomach, LP<\/a>, is named in the lawsuit as the owner of Paper Tiger and other local restaurants and bars.
