Haugh told News 12<\/a> about the obstacles his family dealt with as they were seeking approval for the ramp project.<\/p>\nThey ran into problems finding a contractor to oversee the firefighters’ ramp project, insurance problems and communication problems with the condo complex manager.<\/p>\n
The frustration went on for months until last Thursday.<\/p>\n
The day after his story aired on News 12, those issues were suddenly worked out, the project was a go. <\/p>\n
Fight For Firefighters volunteer John Vaeth said the group of about 15 active and retired firefighters were ready to build the ramp in June.<\/p>\n
He does not typically see these kinds of delays, especially on urgent projects.<\/p>\n
“People have get out of their houses,” Vaeth said. “If they tell me they need it, sometimes I just come the next day and get it done … This experience has been very unusual.”<\/p>\n
\tThe complex manager acknowledged communication problems Wednesday and said he is relieved the ramp was finally completed.<\/p>\n
Haugh is ready to return to enjoying life from places other than his living room.<\/p>\n
His trip down the ramp Wednesday was the fourth time he has been outside since mid-May.<\/p>\n
