He said Ellis was out of control and \u201cflailing\u201d her arms during an \u201cepic yelling match\u201d with Cardi on the fifth floor of a Beverly Hills medical building on Feb. 24, 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tDr. David Finke told jurors that he rushed out of his office to investigate a loud disturbance in the hallway and watched as Ellis allegedly landed the blow. \u201cThere was a lot of yelling, a lot of finger pointing,\u201d he said. \u201cMy receptionist was struck, not hard, but on her shoulder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe doctor said he clearly saw a phone in Ellis\u2019 hand as he tried to de-escalate the situation. He recalled repeatedly telling Ellis in a loud voice that \u201cthis was not okay,\u201d and that she had \u201cto stop and to do [her] job.\u201d The obstetrician-gynocologist said he was a foot away from Ellis, staring her in the face, as he wrangled her into the elevator to leave the fifth floor. He did not notice any injuries on her face, he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tEllis, 32, is suing Cardi with claims the Grammy-winning cut her cheek with a three-inch fingernail, spit on her and hurled racial slurs during their encounter. She claimed Cardi started the altercation because she falsely believed Ellis was recording her, and that the incident left her \u201cdeeply traumatized.\u201d Cardi, meanwhile, testified Tuesday that Ellis was the aggressor, and that she didn\u2019t lay a finger on the guard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWednesday started with Cardi taking the witness stand for a second day, recounting more alleged details of her confrontation with Ellis. The rapper, born Belcalis Alm\u00e1nzar, said she was between three and four months pregnant at the time. She was visiting Dr. Finke\u2019s office for a top-secret pregnancy checkup, she testified, and even asked her personal security guard to wait downstairs because she didn\u2019t want him to know what type of doctor she was seeing.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAlm\u00e1nzar told the jury of six women and six men that Ellis was holding a phone to her ear and blurted out, \u201cOh my god, Cardi B is here,\u201d as soon as the rapper stepped off the elevator. She alleged Ellis then stalked her down a hallway and appeared to be recording her with the phone. When Alm\u00e1nzar asked Ellis to stop, a heated but strictly verbal altercation ensued, she testified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAsked Wednesday if she had any proof Ellis was recording her, Alm\u00e1nzar said that when she accused Ellis of taking a video, the guard responded, \u201cOh, my bad.\u201d She said Ellis was holding her phone in front of her chest at that point, with the camera pointing at her. \u201cShe practically apologized,\u201d Alm\u00e1nzar testified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAlm\u00e1nzar further testified that after the incident, Ellis purportedly posted something online, and her fans caught it. The platinum-selling artist said she then responded online to correct the \u201clies,\u201d accusing Ellis of \u201ctrying to get some money\u201d with her claims. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cShe\u2019s suing me for $24 million,\u201d Alm\u00e1nzar said on the witness stand. The stunning statement marked the first time jurors heard a dollar amount in the case. Ellis\u2019 lawyer, Ron Rosen Janfaza, quickly moved on to another question. (He did not respond to an email seeking comment on the amount.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAsked Wednesday if she was \u201cdisabled\u201d in any way during the incident, unable to swing her arms at Ellis, Alm\u00e1nzar gave a one-liner that caused several jurors to chuckle. \u201cAt that moment, when you\u2019re pregnant, I\u2019m very disabled,\u201d she deadpanned. \u201cYou want me to tell you the things I can\u2019t do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tRelated Content<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAlm\u00e1nzar\u2019s testimony was briefly interrupted Wednesday so the receptionist could give her account. The woman, Tierra Malcolm, recalled rushing out of Dr. Finke\u2019s office first and getting between the women. Malcolm said the office had been expecting Alm\u00e1nzar and was closed to other patients at that time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI saw them in the corner, Cardi B\u2019s back to the wall, and I just heard a lot of arguing,\u201d she said. Malcolm described Alm\u00e1nzar as being \u201ckind of cornered.\u201d She said the women were \u201ccursing,\u201d but she never heard Alm\u00e1nzar use any racial slurs, she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI immediately walked over there and got in between them,\u201d Malcolm testified. She stood facing Ellis, with Alm\u00e1nzar behind her, she recalled. Malcolm said she suffered a scratch on her forehead that was bleeding slightly when she returned to her office. She testified she wasn\u2019t exactly sure how she got the scratch, but she recalled seeing Ellis\u2019 \u201chands trying to reach over me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI could only see arms flying in front of me,\u201d she said. \u201cI didn\u2019t feel anything or see any hands come from behind me.\u201d Asked if she heard Ellis yell, \u201cI will fuck your shit up,\u201d she said, \u201cYeah, something along those words.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tMalcolm said that a few months after the incident, Ellis called and asked if she would assist her with some type of claim related to the incident. Malcolm said she declined. \u201cI didn\u2019t think if I told my truth [that] it would help her,\u201d she testified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBack on the witness stand, Alm\u00e1nzar said she was trying to keep her pregnancy a secret that day because her first hit single, \u201cBodak Yellow (Money Moves),\u201d was still relatively new, and she wasn\u2019t yet accustomed to her rising fame. She was worried about how news of a pregnancy might affect her career. \u201cI didn\u2019t tell my parents yet. I was just very overwhelmed,\u201d she testified. \u201cI felt my privacy was completely being violated. In her 13-page complaint, she claimed Alm\u00e1nzar, also 32, physically attacked her and then \u201cused her celebrity status to get [her] fired.\u201d (Ellis was terminated from her job a few days after the incident.) On Monday, Ellis\u2019 lawyer confirmed his client had dropped the employment claim related to the alleged plot to get her fired.
