{"id":182398,"date":"2025-08-28T12:25:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T12:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/182398\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T12:25:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T12:25:09","slug":"chase-elliott-made-nascar-change-with-dale-jr-richard-petty-to-thank-motorsport-sports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/182398\/","title":{"rendered":"Chase Elliott made NASCAR change with Dale Jr, Richard Petty to thank &#8211; Motorsport &#8211; Sports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-mce-linkchecker-status=\"valid\"><a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Chase Elliott\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/latest\/chase-elliott\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Chase Elliott<\/a>, NASCAR&#8217;s <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/sport\/motorsport\/156608\/nascar-chase-elliott-most-followed-social-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">most popular driver for an unprecedented seven-straight years<\/a>, has driven the No. 9 car for Hendrick Motorsports since 2018.<\/p>\n<p data-mce-linkchecker-status=\"valid\">Before that, a teenage Elliott trotted out in both the No. 25 and No. 24 cars as he looked to get his feet wet in the Cup Series after breaking through in the Xfinity Series.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on &#8216;The Bobby Bones Show&#8217; podcast, Elliott \u2014 <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"NASCAR results in full from Daytona as Alex Bowman sneaks into playoffs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/sport\/motorsport\/181302\/nascar-results-full-daytona-alex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ready to compete for his second Cup Series title this weekend when the playoffs start<\/a> \u2014 opened up about how he was able to change numbers, citing how both Richard Petty and <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Dale Earnhardt Jr.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-express.com\/latest\/dale-earnhardt-jr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dale Earnhardt Jr<\/a> played a part.<\/p>\n<p>He started by admitted that the number nine has &#8220;important family ties&#8221; before explaining how he switched. &#8220;The nine was not being used\u2026.it was kind of a free agent number,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It was owned by Petty Enterprises&#8230;.kind of got passed down and passed down and it kind of got passed down so far that the nine was not being used.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kasey Kahne, Marcos Ambrose [both used it], then I\u2019m kind of not sure where it went after that. Then it kind of just disappeared for one reason or another; I don\u2019t exactly know why. It ended up not being used.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Somebody had a conversation with Richard Petty and he said \u2018hey, you can have it. Totally yours. You have family ties to this number and it would be really cool for you guys to take it.\u2019 The king let us have it and we ran with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elliott, the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion, has 20 wins in 343 races in various numbers.
