\n\tKim Harvey<\/a> has been named executive producer of CBS Evening News<\/a>, signaling changes ahead for the network\u2019s evening news broadcast following an overhaul earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\n\tHarvey will be the second woman to lead the broadcast.<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this year, John Dickerson<\/a> and Maurice DuBois<\/a> became anchors of CBS Evening News, in a format that emphasized correspondent storytelling rather than the breaking news rundown of rivals. <\/p>\n

\n\tHarvey has been senior broadcast producer at CBS Evening News, having spent her tenure at the network at the evening news broadcast, with extensive experience covering live and breaking news. She joined the network in 2017, having previously worked at MSNBC, Fox News and CNN.<\/p>\n

\n\tShe recently led the coverage of the flooding disaster in Texas, and the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, and covered the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome. She has produced for anchors Dickerson and DuBois, as well as Norah O\u2019Donnell and Jeff Glor.<\/p>\n

\n\tTom Cibrowski, president and executive editor of CBS News, said in a statement, \u201cKim brings a sharp news sense and terrific track record of producing from across the broadcast and cable networks. She is a well respected newsroom leader and her relationships with our on-air talent, producers and reporters run deep.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHarvey won an Emmy for her work on MSNBC\u2019s All in With Chris Hayes,\u00a0for a report on poverty in the U.S., and for her work on The Rachel Maddow Show for the host\u2019s coverage from Afghanistan.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tHarvey said in a statement, \u201cI have great respect and admiration for those who steered this broadcast before me, and I am grateful to Tom and the team for their support. I look forward to leading our incredible group of journalists as we deliver the latest news, original reporting and memorable stories to our audience every night.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs ratings for the overhauled broadcast have been lackluster, there have been changes made to re-emphasize breaking news, with DuBois in Minneapolis on Wednesday to cover the school shooting at a Catholic Church.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut there also are disruptions ahead, as newly merged Paramount-Skydance are planning to make a round of major budget cuts around the company this fall. Also, as part of the merger approval with the FCC, Skydance committed to hiring an ombudsman to take complaints about news programming, including allegations of bias.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe CBS Evening News has been led by Guy Campanile, who is returning to 60 Minutes. Last year, he had been tapped to bring the newscast to New York and relaunch the broadcast, but his return to the newsmagazine had been the plan, according to a source.<\/p>\n

\n\tCibrowski\u2019s memo to staffers is below:<\/p>\n

\n\tKim has been a wonderful partner to so many across the news division over the last nine years, and I know she will bring a terrific sensibility to our flagship nightly program.<\/p>\n

\n\tKim has a comprehensive track record working across a multitude of news programs and networks over 25 years in broadcast and cable news. \u00a0\u00a0I know she will continue to evolve the CBS Evening News while maintaining our distinctive original reporting every day.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe show has been firing on all cylinders recently with on the scene reporting by John in Anchorage and Maurice in Minneapolis just last night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThank you to Guy for leading the way as he returns to 60 Minutes next week.<\/p>\n

\n\tI look forward to continuing to work with Kim, John and Maurice and the entire Evening News team on the tremendous journalism and storytelling that our audience expects every night.<\/p>\n
