A 57-year-old man riding an electric moped suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision with a car Aug. 27 in La Jolla.<\/p>\n
The man was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the San Diego Police Department.<\/p>\n
The crash occurred at about 3:50 p.m. when the man, driving the moped south on Soledad Mountain Road, approached a \u201cT\u201d intersection at Caminito Blythefield as another vehicle was heading toward the intersection, police reported.<\/p>\n
Police said the moped rider began turning left from the southbound lane, violating the right of way of a 2014 Nissan Altima driven by a 46-year-old man, and the vehicles collided.<\/p>\n
The moped rider was taken to a hospital with injuries including a collapsed lung, a broken rib and an arm laceration.<\/p>\n
The Altima driver was not injured.<\/p>\n
The collision is under investigation by the Police Department\u2019s Traffic Division. Anyone with information about the case can call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. \u2666<\/p>\n
