{"id":183265,"date":"2025-08-28T22:56:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T22:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/183265\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T22:56:16","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T22:56:16","slug":"tennis-fan-scores-free-us-open-ticket-with-sign-ripping-sore-loser-jelena-ostapenko","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/183265\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennis fan scores free US open ticket with sign ripping sore loser Je\u013cena Ostapenko"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gotta love-love this ticket price!<\/p>\n<p>A tennis fan scored a free, prime <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/tag\/us-open-tennis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a> ticket Thursday by waving a snarky sign ripping sore loser player <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/27\/sports\/taylor-townsend-gets-into-fiery-us-open-moment-with-jelena-ostapenko\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Je\u013cena Ostapenko\u2019s post-match meltdown<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dahlia Lopez Ramsay needed a last-minute pass to the world-renowned tournament for her mom, so she whipped out sign proclaiming, \u201cWill haunt Ostapenko\u2019s dreams for a free ticket\u201d \u2014\u00a0catching the eye of a couple who laughed and handed her a freebie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought that sign was hilarious and I had an extra ticket,\u201d Allen Smith, 50, of Huntsville, Alabama, who gave her a pass\u00a0 to see top-tier matches at Louis Armstrong and Arthur Ashe stadiums, worth hundreds of dollars.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dahlia Lopez Ramsay needed a last-minute ticket for her mom, so she whipped out sign proclaiming, \u201cWill haunt Ostapenko\u2019s dreams for a free ticket.\u201d Steven Vago \/ NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Ramsay\u2019s sign skewered the Latvian tennis pro for accusing opponent Taylor Townsend of having \u201cno class\u201d and \u201cno education\u201d in a<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/27\/sports\/taylor-townsend-gets-into-fiery-us-open-moment-with-jelena-ostapenko\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> heated exchange<\/a> after their second round match Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Smith, who was attending the tournament with his wife, called the post-match argument\u00a0Wednesday between the two tennis stars a shame.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it was unfortunate. We watched [Ostapenko] for years and she\u2019s always clowning\u2026she\u2019s gotta be smarter than that,\u201d he said of the post-game flip-out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that was horrible,\u201d his wife added. \u201cShe was the classless one. She was just mad that she was losing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Allen Smith, 50, and his wife gave  Ramsay a free extra ticket. Steven Vago \/ NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Ramsay, 39, of Sunset Park, said she came up with the idea for the sign Thursday morning and stood with it near the 7 train station in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park for about 45 minutes before scoring the ticket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I woke up this morning I said perfect, something to riff off of,\u201d\u00a0 Ramsay said as fans snapped photos of her sign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like the exercise of writing copy. Oh what would catch peoples attention, what would make them laugh, what would engender generosity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat people are resonating with is the fact that the woman who behaved towards Taylor Townsend was unprofessional, inexcusable, unkind,\u201d said Ramsay,  who works in education, and said she has gotten free tickets four years in a row.<\/p>\n<p>Je\u013cena Ostapenko accused  opponent Taylor Townsend of having \u201cno class\u201d and \u201cno education\u201d after their match Wednesday.<br \/>\n Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is pretty easy,\u201d she said about getting into the US Open for free.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ramsay said she wanted a free ticket for her mom, who is an \u201con the fence tennis fan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Ostapenko and Townsend had a tense back-and-forth over the fact that after one of Townsend\u2019s shots clipped the top of the net but remained in play,\u00a0 also known as a net cord.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/28\/sports\/video-shows-what-taylor-townsend-said-to-jelena-ostapenko-in-heated-us-open-moment\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ostapenko told Townsend she had \u201cno class\u201d <\/a>and \u201cno education\u201d after her opponent refused to apologize for the net cord.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday after the match I told my opponent that she was very disrespectful as she had a net ball in a very deciding moment and didn\u2019t say sorry, but her answer was that she doesn\u2019t have to say sorry at all,\u201d Ostapenko\u00a0later wrote on social media.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are some rules in tennis which most of the players follow and it was first time ever that this happened to me on tour. If she plays in her homeland it doesn\u2019t mean that she can behave and do whatever she wants.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Gotta love-love this ticket price!
