{"id":183475,"date":"2025-08-29T00:51:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T00:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/183475\/"},"modified":"2025-08-29T00:51:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T00:51:09","slug":"george-clooney-adam-sandler-movie-jay-kelly-premieres-at-venice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/183475\/","title":{"rendered":"George Clooney, Adam Sandler Movie &#8216;Jay Kelly&#8217; Premieres at Venice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/george-clooney\/\" id=\"auto-tag_george-clooney\" data-tag=\"george-clooney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">George Clooney<\/a> braved a sinus infection and a rainstorm on Thursday night for the Venice premiere of Noah Baumbach\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/jay-kelly\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jay-kelly\" data-tag=\"jay-kelly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jay Kelly<\/a>,\u201d which soaked in an 8.5-minute standing ovation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tClooney walked the red carpet on the Lido with his co-star <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/adam-sandler\/\" id=\"auto-tag_adam-sandler\" data-tag=\"adam-sandler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adam Sandler<\/a>, who made a rare appearance in a tux. The two leading men play a Hollywood power couple of sorts in the Netflix film, which judging by the Venice applause-o-meter, could be a major Oscar contender. In \u201cJay Kelly,\u201d Clooney is an aging movie star and Sandler is his manager who has sacrifices everything for his most precious client.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs the crowd cheered during the ovation, Clooney leaned over and kiss his wife Amal, seated behind him. He hugged Sandler and Baumbach throughout the applause. The film ended at nearly 1 a.m. during a vicious thunderstorm, as the crowd poured into the soaking wet streets in a sea of umbrellas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEarlier in the day, Clooney <a data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/george-clooney-misses-jay-kelly-venice-press-conference-sinus-infection-1236500742\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/george-clooney-misses-jay-kelly-venice-press-conference-sinus-infection-1236500742\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">missed the film\u2019s official press conference<\/a> as he recovered from a sinus infection. And on the red carpet, the star did try to socially distance from his cast, which included Laura Dern (as Jay Kelly\u2019s publicist Liz), Billy Crudup (his childhood friend) and Riley Keough (his daughter). But that lasted all of a few minutes as festivalgoers enthusiastically shook Clooney\u2019s hand, hugged him and even kissed him on the cheek\u00a0\u2014\u00a0germs he damned. Clooney played along, signing autographs for a while before embracing jury president Alexander Payne and taking his seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tClooney portrays a famous movie star (what a reach!) in his 60s except in \u201cJay Kelly,\u201d he\u2019s facing a personal reckoning. So he embarks on a journey through Europe \u2014 by plane, train and automobile \u2014 with his entourage as he reflects on his life choices, relationships and legacies. Baumbach wrote the film with Emily Mortimer (\u201cThe Newsroom\u201d) in her feature screenwriting debut. The starry ensemble, not all of whom were able to make the trek to the Lido, include Baumbach\u2019s real-life partner Greta Gerwig, Patrick Wilson, Eve Hewson and Isla Fisher.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe film\u2019s tagline is \u201cEverybody knows Jay Kelly, but Jay Kelly doesn\u2019t know himself,\u201d and Clooney has described the role as the most \u201cvulnerable\u201d of his career. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhen you\u2019re an actor in my position, at my age, finding roles like this aren\u2019t all that common,\u201d Clooney <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/story\/jay-kelly-george-clooney-adam-sandler-exclusive-awards-insider?srsltid=AfmBOoqZWInfncSV74_cLefgbc9XfR-YTyhd6VXAWDK7eG_w5ZHtT1cE\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/story\/jay-kelly-george-clooney-adam-sandler-exclusive-awards-insider?srsltid=AfmBOoqZWInfncSV74_cLefgbc9XfR-YTyhd6VXAWDK7eG_w5ZHtT1cE\" target=\"_blank\">told Vanity Fair prior to the premiere<\/a>. \u201cIf you can\u2019t make peace with aging, then you\u2019ve got to get out of the business and just disappear. I\u2019m now the guy that, when I go running after a bad guy, it\u2019s funny \u2014 it\u2019s not suspenseful. That\u2019s okay. I embrace all of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBaumbach has premiered a number of his films on the Lido, including 2022\u2019s \u201cWhite Noise,\u201d 2019\u2019s Oscar-nominated \u201cMarriage Story\u201d and 2015\u2019s documentary \u201cDe Palma\u201d about the filmmaking titan.
