SAN ANTONIO – As fireworks stands open in Bexar County and surrounding areas in preparation for the Fourth of July, fire officials are urging residents to prioritize safety when using fireworks. <\/p>\n
Scott Moreland, Helotes Fire Chief, emphasized the importance of being cautious. “Be aware of what’s in the environment. You know, be aware of where you’re at. Be aware of what could happen if you fire a firework over a wooded area. There’s just so many variables with it. It’s just, fireworks burn extremely hot and if they touch something that’s dry or extremely combustible, it’s gonna catch fire,” said Moreland.<\/p>\n
Residents are reminded that it is illegal to set off fireworks within San Antonio city limits. Those who witness illegal fireworks can report them by calling the city’s non-emergency number.<\/p>\n
In celebration of the holiday, the H-E-B Fourth of July Celebration will take place at Woodlawn Lake. The event, which is free and open to the public, kicks off with fitness activities, including a Zumba class at 8 a.m. Live music, food booths, and a carnival will begin at 11 a.m. Attendees should note that no alcohol is sold or allowed on site. <\/p>\n
