SAN ANTONIO – Hours ahead of the start to the Labor day weekend \u2014 a big piece of the 1604 expansion project on the Northwest side is finally finished.<\/p>\n
The newest flyover ramp to I-10 is now open, making travel much easier for people coming from 1604 W.<\/p>\n
The project started four years ago. People who live and work in the area have dealt with traffic and construction since then as crews built the ramp.<\/p>\n
It’s the third of four flyover ramps set to help with TXDOT expansion of loop 1604 on the North side \u2014 it cost roughly $279 million.<\/p>\n
Segment 2 of the project connects the opposite sides of 1604 and I-10. That part is scheduled to be finished in 2027 and comes at a projected cost of $463 million.<\/p>\n
The overall project will expand the loop between Bandera Rd and I-35, bringing it to a total of 23 miles — with a roughly $1.4 billion price tag.<\/p>\n
People we spoke to who live and work in the area said they believe this will help the area run more smoothly once all the construction is done.<\/p>\n
