The other half are rented for $1,000 or more. Renters don\u2019t pay HOA fees, but they say repairs take months or never happen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI pay $280 a month, plus an extra $10 for paying online, and nothing gets fixed,\u201d one owner told KPRC 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Another renter added, \u201cI pay $1,140 a month for rent, and they take forever to repair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">One woman said she lived without hot water for more than a year. \u201cWe were boiling water just to take a shower. A year and a half, no hot water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Citations date back to 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">City records show the property has been cited three times since 2023. But residents say the problems continue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThis place looks like it hasn\u2019t been touched in years,\u201d said one condo owner. \u201cWe live in Houston, not in a third-world country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cThis is a death trap\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Beyond broken mailboxes, leaning fences, and abandoned buildings, residents pointed KPRC 2 to three massive holes dug in front of one building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Neighbors say they were told the holes were for structural repairs. Months later, they\u2019re still open \u2014 now filled with dirty water, tree branches, and debris.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThis is a hazard. This is a death trap,\u201d one resident said, standing feet from the openings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Another resident said children play near the area. \u201cThey cut down trees and told workers to dump the branches in the holes. It\u2019s dangerous for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>City responds after KPRC 2 calls<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">After KPRC 2 began making calls, the City of Houston sent inspectors to the property Thursday. Officials say this was the first time they were made aware of the holes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re getting involved as quickly as we can,\u201d said Juan Pablo Cabello, Director of Constituent Services for Council Member Joaquin Martinez. \u201cWe\u2019re talking to the neighbors, talking to the residents, and working with the management to see where the next step is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">City staff say more inspections and follow-ups are planned. Martinez\u2019s office confirmed the councilman is considering visiting the property himself.<\/p>\n<p><b>Management stays silent<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">KPRC 2 also tried speaking with Andrea, the property manager residents deal with directly. She declined to answer questions, telling us only to \u201cvisit the website.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Residents fear losing everything<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Some owners told KPRC 2 they\u2019ve invested their life savings into their condos, fixing the inside with their own money \u2014 but they\u2019re scared the property\u2019s management could still push them out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI paid fifty thousand dollars for my unit. I remodeled everything myself. If they kick me out, I lose everything,\u201d one owner said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Another father with a child with autism said he\u2019s asked for repairs to his fence to keep his daughter safe. \u201cI can fix it myself, but what if they remove us after I spend the money?
