The company <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/developers.meta.com\/horizon\/blog\/environment-generation-embodied-conversational-llm-npcs-genai-tools\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:previewed;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">previewed<\/a> the move, which is coming \u201cvery soon\u201d as part of a developer update that adds new generative AI tools for developers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 engadget-charcoal\">Once available, developers will be able to use Meta\u2019s Worlds Desktop Editor to create NPCs that can hold \u201clifelike\u201d conversations with players via voice chat. The company has previously <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/developers.meta.com\/horizon\/blog\/new-tools-incentives-creators-mobile-worlds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:experimented;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">experimented<\/a> with NPCs for its metaverse, but the upcoming update will be the first time developers have access to customizable embodied characters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 engadget-charcoal\">For players, this means the NPCs they encounter will be able to engage more dynamically and respond to specific interactions rather than only relying on scripted responses.
