{"id":184371,"date":"2025-08-29T10:55:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T10:55:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/184371\/"},"modified":"2025-08-29T10:55:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T10:55:14","slug":"houston-area-law-enforcement-launches-no-refusal-initiative-for-labor-day-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/184371\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston-area law enforcement launches \u201cNo Refusal\u201d initiative for Labor Day weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 With Labor Day weekend marking the unofficial end of summer, Houston-area law enforcement agencies are teaming up once again to keep impaired drivers off the roads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A multi-agency \u201cNo Refusal\u201d initiative began Friday and will run through Monday night, targeting drunk drivers during one of the deadliest holiday weekends of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reports that a crash involving an impaired driver occurs every 23 minutes in the state. Last Labor Day weekend, 10 people were killed and 36 others were seriously injured in DWI-related crashes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Officials say the Gulf Freeway remains a particular concern, with more drunk driving deaths there than on any other freeway in Houston.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In Fort Bend County, attorneys from the District Attorney\u2019s Office will be on call to draft search warrants for suspected drunk drivers who refuse breath or blood tests. Local judges will be available to sign the warrants, and medical staff will be standing by to draw blood samples.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Community leaders urged drivers to plan ahead before celebrating\u2014whether by designating a sober driver, using a rideshare service, or arranging alternate transportation. They also encouraged friends to step in if someone tries to drive impaired.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI always say, if you\u2019re going to drink, don\u2019t drive,\u201d said Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">TxDOT is also promoting its \u201cDrive Sober.
