In essence, it is clearly evident that we have a candidate who is not only a Socialist, but also a Communist.

Let’s analyze the “Ahhh….Socialism” statement. Any candidate that preaches support of Socialism is honestly antithetical to the values of most New Yorkers. People left Chavez/Maduro’s Venezuela to escape Socialism, not to return to it.

Zohran believes that government should seize control over every industry, which is in essence the definition of Socialism. Socialism never works, as evidenced in countries that once had thriving economies, like Venezuela. Now, its country in financial ruin. Followed by that, “seize the means of production:” Synonymous with socialism, to seize the means of production is to eliminate private industry. To be perfectly explicit, New York City was built on the private sector and every big corporation once started out as a small business.

Both Wall Street and Main Street fuel the economy. Wall Street actually provides goods and services to Main Street and the same is the case for Wall Street. When Wall Street leaves, so will Main Street. Seizing the means of production ultimately means the government taking control over the private sector, which is downright disgusting and punitive to both the worker and the businessperson.

By its definition, it will open a pathway to Communism because it will redistribute the wealth to make it so that regardless of the output, everyone earns the same.

“Decommidication of housing” is most fitting for the definition of Communism. In the Soviet Union, people had to flee because they were forced out of their homes to make way for the government. Read or watch “Fiddler on the Roof” when the Bolsheviks took over. People work hard to live in housing. We all agree that affordable housing needs to be created, but it cannot be done through government mandates, but rather through tax incentives. What Zohran wants is purely punitive to those who worked hard and made it.

Only in New York can a dishwasher become a restauranteur. Only in New York can a cleaner be the CEO of a company. Only in New York can a son of immigrants (legal) run for office and get elected. Only in New York can a Zillennial with audacity and intellect can start and build a business. Only in New York can a homeless woman, the daughter of drug addicts, be a success in her academic studies at Harvard.

Zohran is antithetical to the values that define New York, and that goes without saying. His views are not those of mainstream voters. Thus, I think it’s important for New Yorkers to seriously rally behind one candidate who will win and lead this place back to the shining city on a hill that it once was.

(Joseph Pidoriano is a New Dorp resident.)

If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
