{"id":184913,"date":"2025-08-29T15:36:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T15:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/184913\/"},"modified":"2025-08-29T15:36:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T15:36:14","slug":"legionnaires-death-toll-rises-to-7-in-new-york-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/184913\/","title":{"rendered":"Legionnaires death toll rises to 7 in New York City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 New York City health officials have discovered a seventh death linked to a <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/legionnaires-disease-water-harlem-321a278807329f3843c8d37d40e09e51\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Legionnaires\u2019 disease outbreak<\/a> in Central Harlem, where more than 100 people have been diagnosed with the ailment.<\/p>\n<p>The latest death <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NYCHealthCommr\/status\/1961172221197729967\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">was announced Thursday<\/a>. Officials said they had concluded the death of a person with the disease who died before mid-August is associated with the cluster.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/doh\/health\/health-topics\/legionnaires-disease.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Officials said<\/a> 114 people have been diagnosed with Legionnaires\u2019 disease as of Thursday, while six people are hospitalized.<\/p>\n<p>The bacteria that causes Legionnaires\u2019 disease had been discovered in 12 cooling towers on 10 buildings, including a city-run hospital and sexual health clinic, <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/doh\/about\/press\/pr2025\/nyc-health-provides-third-legionnaires-cluster-update.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">health officials said<\/a>. Remediation efforts have since been completed on all of the cooling towers.<\/p>\n<p>Legionnaires\u2019 disease is a type of pneumonia that is caused by Legionella bacteria, which grow in warm water and spread through building water systems.
