{"id":185079,"date":"2025-08-29T17:01:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T17:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/185079\/"},"modified":"2025-08-29T17:01:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T17:01:14","slug":"hurst-voters-will-see-a-3-34-property-tax-increase-for-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/185079\/","title":{"rendered":"Hurst voters will see a 3.34% property tax increase for 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hurst property owners will see a <a href=\"https:\/\/hursttx.new.swagit.com\/videos\/352323\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">3.34% increase<\/a> in their property tax rate for the fiscal 2025-26 year, after the Hurst City Council approved a new budget Aug. 26.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the council approved a 2% rate increase in water and wastewater rates for the new year at the same meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The council approved an $88 million budget, including a $46.5 million general fund budget funded by the property tax. One council member voted no on both, saying she couldn\u2019t countenance increasing constituents\u2019 financial burdens.<\/p>\n<p>The council also preliminarily approved a <a href=\"https:\/\/hursttx.new.swagit.com\/videos\/352323\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$5.8 million Crime Control and Prevention District budget<\/a> for the new year, which is funded by a half-cent sales tax.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hursttx.gov\/home\/showpublisheddocument\/13570\/638749461098270000\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">city tax rate for the current year<\/a> is 0.591 per $100 of assessed value for tax purposes. The new rate is 0.611882 per $100 of value. That means the tax rate increase will amount to a city tax bill of $2,447 on a home valued at $400,000 for tax purposes, up from $2,364 in the current year.<\/p>\n<p>The water and wastewater rate increase will amount to an average increase of $2.15 per month on residential bills.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s general fund budget for the current year is $44.6 million, and city officials cited various factors for the rise in the budget, including employee health care costs, competition for public safety employees in the region and general inflation.
