He dropped a new single, \u201cRoto,\u201d last month and on Sept. 25 will perform as musical alter ego Candelita at Petco Park.<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old is also a veteran of 13 seasons in the majors, boasts some of the quickest glove transfers in the game and can kick up with ease.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, Jose Iglesias is an easy choice for a Padre who could hack it with the Savannah Bananas, who\u2019ll bring their world tour to Petco Park on Sept. 5 and 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he\u2019d do the most cool (expletive) on the field,\u201d Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove said. \u201cI think his personality would fit in well. He could do a concert afterwards. (Meg McLaughlin \/ The San Diego Union-Tribune)<\/p>\n<p>Alas, Iglesias and the Padres are otherwise occupied for the Bananas\u2019 visit \u2014 their dates at Coors Field next weekend is the reason Petco Park is free for the Bananas\u2019 stop. Logistics didn\u2019t keep the Padres from revealing which of their teammates they thought could best fold into a brand of baseball known for trick plays, dancing players and odd rules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Iglesias) is an easy name, but I think (Jason) Adam will be sneaky good,\u201d shortstop Xander Bogaerts said with a smile. \u201cHe\u2019ll be great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan O\u2019Hearn is new to the Padres, but he played against Nick Pivetta plenty in the AL East.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he was in Boston, I was like, \u2018Man, this guy\u2019s \u2026 I don\u2019t know about this guy,\u2019\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2025\/08\/19\/nick-pivetta-plays-stopper-padres-top-giants-to-end-four-game-skid\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">O\u2019Hearn said after Pivetta played stopper with a dominant start<\/a> \u2014 and thinks he\u2019s got the demonstrative pitcher pegged now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe just seems like that kind of guy, can put on a show up there,\u201d O\u2019Hearn said. \u201cHe\u2019s probably a good dancer. (Meg McLaughlin \/ The San Diego Union-Tribune)<\/p>\n<p>Pivetta\u2019s pitching coach agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook at him,\u201d Ruben Niebla said. \u201cHe\u2019s halfway there to being a Banana. \u2026 He\u2019s got energy. More energy than any person I\u2019ve seen, and it takes a lot of energy to be out there and entertaining in some different kind of manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Niebla thinks a lot of his relievers, too, so he believes David Morgan has what it takes on a different level: \u201cHe\u2019s very athletic, so he\u2019s capable of doing the back flips, the whole shebang,\u201d Niebla said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked for his pick, Morgan went right to a new teammate.<\/p>\n<p>After all, \u201cNasty\u201d Nestor Cortes is sight to behold with all the quirks he works into deliveries in a standard baseball game.<\/p>\n<p>What would happen if he didn\u2019t have to worry about a balk?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s just goofy,\u201d Morgan said. \u201cIf you talk to him, you get that vibe. He can do his weird mechanics on the mound, have a little dance probably and deliver the pitch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The personality is the reason Adam settled on fellow reliever Wandy Peralta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re going for the humor \u2014 Wandy,\u201d Adam said. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to describe, but he\u2019s just funny. He\u2019s good with voices. He knows how to be funny and I don\u2019t even know what he\u2019s saying half the time. He\u2019s just the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Wade, currently with Triple-A El Paso, got a couple nods as having \u201cthat actor in him,\u201d said Gavin Sheets, and being \u201ca showman,\u201d said Pivetta, but there\u2019s also a clear consensus in the clubhouse:<\/p>\n<p>Iglesias or Fernando Tatis Jr.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Manny Machado gave the nod to Iglesias after Tatis quipped \u201cdon\u2019t say me\u201d while within earshot of the question.<\/p>\n<p>Plenty already had.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re going for the backflips, I feel like that\u2019s Tatis\u2019 range,\u201d Adam said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019ll do the squatting and jumping around and then he\u2019ll hit a great homer,\u201d Iglesias said.<\/p>\n<p>Added Peralta through interpreter Jorge Merlos: \u201cI feel like Tatis would be a good one to interact with a whole bunch of people and even with his teammates, so I\u2019d really like to see him try out for the Savannah Bananas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Tatis picked a new teammate in Ram\u00f3n Laureano \u2014 \u201che\u2019s definitely a character; he\u2019s just funny,\u201d he said \u2014 but Michael King summed the decision just right.<\/p>\n<p>Why not go with both Tatis and Iglesias?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTati\u2019s probably a good one,\u201d King said. \u201cIglesias has the performing skills under his belt.
