When volatile food and energy costs are factored out, the Federal Reserve\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morningstar.com\/markets\/whats-difference-between-cpi-pce\" tabindex=\"0\" class=\"mdc-link__mdc mdc-link--body__mdc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">preferred measure of inflation<\/a> increased 2.9% from one year ago, in line with expectations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mdc-story-body__paragraph__mdc mdc-story-body__paragraph--large__mdc mdc-story-body__block__mdc\">The PCE Price Index increased 0.2% from month-ago levels.
