Jean Carroll<\/strong>, the former advice columnist who later won legal judgments against Pres. <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong>, who took a train from New York to attend the world premiere of the documentary feature Ask E. Jean (still seeking U.S. distribution); and two <strong>Skarsg\u00e5rds<\/strong>, <strong>Stellan<\/strong>, here with Sentimental Value (Neon), and <strong>Alexander<\/strong>, here with Pillion (Mubi), who told me they will be seeing each other\u2019s movies for the first time here at the fest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTopics of conversation ranged widely. There was speculation about what Friday afternoon\u2019s Patrons Preview screening would be\u00a0(it turned out to be the North American premiere of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/paolo-sorrentino-0\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paolo-sorrentino-0_1\" data-tag=\"paolo-sorrentino-0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paolo Sorrentino<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/la-grazia\/\" id=\"auto-tag_la-grazia_1\" data-tag=\"la-grazia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">La Grazia<\/a>, which played very well in the Werner Herzog Theater, led by a great <strong>Tony Servillo<\/strong> turn); whether or not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jay-kelly\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jay-kelly_1\" data-tag=\"jay-kelly\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jay Kelly<\/a> star <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/george-clooney\/\" id=\"auto-tag_george-clooney_1\" data-tag=\"george-clooney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">George Clooney<\/a><\/strong> would make it to the fest even though a severe sinus infection caused him to miss festivities earlier this week at the Venice Film Festival (unfortunately he won\u2019t, we have learned); and whether or not <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/bruce-springsteen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bruce-springsteen_1\" data-tag=\"bruce-springsteen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bruce Springsteen<\/a><\/strong>, the inspiration for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere\/\" id=\"auto-tag_springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere_1\" data-tag=\"springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere<\/a> (Searchlight), would be at the fest in support of that film (the festival confirms: he will!).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tElsewhere, Ballad of a Small Player (Netflix) star <strong>Colin Farrell<\/strong> charmed all comers; Fingernails costars <strong>Riz Ahmed<\/strong>, here with Hamlet (still seeking U.S. distribution), and <strong>Jessie Buckley<\/strong>, here with Hamnet (Focus), caught up; producer <strong>Teddy Schwarzman<\/strong> talked up the two movies he has at the fest, Train Dreams (Netflix) and Tuner (still seeking U.S. distribution); and the trio of Sentimental Value actresses, <strong>Elle Fanning<\/strong>, <strong>Renate Reinsve<\/strong> and <strong>Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas<\/strong>, all first-time attendees of the fest, hung out together. Fanning said she would later attend the <strong>Merle Haggard<\/strong> documentary Highway 99 A Double Album (still seeking U.S. distribution), which her boyfriend worked on as a producer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMeanwhile, two people on polar-opposite sides of the political spectrum chatted beside each other \u2014 longtime New Yorker editor <strong>David Remnick<\/strong>, who is featured in The New Yorker at 100 (Netflix), and CNBC\u2019s Squawk Box host <strong>Joe Kernen<\/strong>, who attends the fest each year with his family.
