\n\tSony Pictures Motion Picture Group CEO Tom Rothman<\/a> knows what it takes to be a studio exec, and he called out the way people in the role are depicted in The Studio<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tSeth Rogen and Evan Goldberg\u2019s Hollywood satire series follows Matt Remick (Rogen), the new executive of Continental Studios who struggles to run the fictional company.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIn each one of those episodes, there is a kernel of brilliant, blinding truth, and that\u2019s what makes great satire,\u201d Rothman told Letterboxd<\/a> in an interview published on Thursday. \u201cThe show is wonderfully satiric.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile he was able to admire \u201cthat kernel,\u201d Rothman said that \u201ceverything else is horseshit.\u201d He continued, \u201cMaybe some days, but most days we\u2019re not morons.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite his issues with the portrayal of studio execs, Rothman insisted he was able to view the Apple TV+ series \u201cwith the sense of humor intended.\u201d In fact, he even referenced The Studio while giving a presentation<\/a> in March. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen I took the stage a few months ago at CinemaCon, I walked out and said, \u2018Hi, everybody, I\u2019m Seth Rogen!\u2019 which was good for a laugh there,\u201d he said, referring to Rogen\u2019s character on the show. During the final two episodes of Season 1, Remick presented at the Las Vegas exhibitors\u2019 conference.<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile, Rothman also said that The Studio accurately depicts Remick\u2019s undying passion for cinema despite the persistent mistakes he\u2019s made as an exectuive. \u201cWhat it gets right is that there\u2019s a fundamental truth of studio executives trying to do the right thing, and there being many, many obstacles to doing [so],\u201d Rothman said. \u201cThe difference there is it depicts a great deal of moral compromise in pursuing that. That\u2019s not really the way it is. Most people are people like me, who love movies, have a lot of integrity and are just trying to do the best we can.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSeason 1 of The Studio was critically acclaimed and nabbed 23 nominations at the 77th Emmy Awards. Additionally, the show made headlines for featuring an all-star cast of guest stars including Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Bryan Cranston, Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O\u2019Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Zo\u00eb Kravitz, Anthony Mackie and Dave Franco.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing the Emmy nominations, Rogen and Goldberg spoke to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> about tying the record with The Bear for most comedy nominations in a season. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think I\u2019m still in shock a little bit, but it\u2019s very, very, very nice.
