{"id":185923,"date":"2025-08-30T00:24:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T00:24:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/185923\/"},"modified":"2025-08-30T00:24:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T00:24:10","slug":"social-security-whistleblower-who-claims-doge-mishandled-americans-sensitive-data-resigns-from-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/185923\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Security whistleblower who claims DOGE mishandled Americans&#8217; sensitive data resigns from post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 A Social Security official who has filed a whistleblower complaint alleging the Department of Government Efficiency officials <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/social-security-data-department-of-government-efficiency-f8b842c3eeaea5a304c690fba9b032ef\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:mishandled;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">mishandled<\/a> Americans&#8217; sensitive information says he&#8217;s resigning his post because of actions taken against him since making his complaint.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Charles Borges, the agency&#8217;s chief data officer, alleged that more than 300 million Americans\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/us-social-security-administration\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Social Security;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Social Security<\/a> data was put at risk by DOGE officials who uploaded sensitive information to a cloud account not subject to oversight. His <a href=\"https:\/\/whistleblower.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/08-26-2025-Borges-Disclosure-Sanitized.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:whistleblower disclosure;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">whistleblower disclosure<\/a> was submitted to the special counsel\u2019s office on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In a letter to SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano, Borges claimed that since filing his whistleblower complaint, the agency&#8217;s actions make his duties \u201cimpossible to perform legally and ethically\u201d and have caused him \u201cphysical, mental and emotional distress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cAfter reporting internally to management and externally to regulators, serious data and security and integrity concerns impacting our citizens\u2019 most sensitive personal data, I have suffered exclusion, isolation, internal strife, and a culture of fear, creating a hostile work environment and making work conditions intolerable,\u201d Borges added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Project Government Accountability Office, which is representing him in his whistleblower case, posted <a href=\"https:\/\/whistleblower.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/bpRYEnf-Imgur.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Borges&#039; resignation letter;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Borges&#8217; resignation letter<\/a> on its website Friday evening. Borges declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cHe no longer felt that he could continue to work for the Social Security Administration in good conscience, given what he had witnessed,\u201d his attorney Andrea Meza said in a statement.
