For years, the agency has been paying out more benefits than it takes in via payroll taxes.<\/p>\n<p>Scripps News<\/p>\n<p>Those who get\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/07\/29\/ssi-payment-check-schedule-august-2025\/85381471007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Supplemental Security Income checks<\/a>\u00a0won&#8217;t get a check during the calendar month of September \u2013 but not because of any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/18\/social-security-shortfall-benefits-retirement\/84261121007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/18\/social-security-shortfall-benefits-retirement\/84261121007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">problem with Social Security<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Beneficiaries are actually scheduled to get their September SSI payment on Friday, Aug. 29, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Social Security Administration\u2019s calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SSI payments are typically issued on the first day of the month, but when the first of the month lands on a weekend or a holiday, as it does in September (Sept. 1 is Labor Day), the payments go out early.<\/p>\n<p>A similar situation happened in June, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/05\/28\/ssi-payment-check-schedule-june\/83843176007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SSI recipients<\/a>\u00a0getting payments on May 1 and May 30 \u2013 and will happen again in November, with that month&#8217;s check being issued Oct. 31, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the SSA calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">Retirement: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/08\/28\/seniors-outlive-retirement-savings-social-security-401k\/85821717007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seniors risk outliving their retirement savings in these 41 states<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When are SSI payments sent out for September? See full 2025 payment schedule<\/p>\n<p>SSI beneficiaries got two checks in the calendar month of August \u2013 one of which is the September payment \u2013 and will again in October and December, too. That&#8217;s because the first date of the following month lands on a weekend or holiday.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the dates for SSI payments for the rest of 2025 and into\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">early 2026<\/a>, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/calendar.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the SSA calendar<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Friday, Aug. 29, 2025 (Check for September 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025 (Check for October 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Friday, Oct. 31, 2025 (Check for November 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Monday, Dec. 1, 2025 (Check for December 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025 (Check for January 2026)<\/li>\n<li>Friday, Jan. 30, 2026 (Check for February 2026)<\/li>\n<li>Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 (Check for March 2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What is SSI?<\/p>\n<p>Supplemental Security Income is a benefit program for those with limited income or resources, those aged 65 or older, and those who are blind or have a qualifying disability. Children with a qualifying disability can also get SSI. For information about how to apply for SSI, visit the SSA&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/faq.ssa.gov\/en-us\/Topic\/article\/KA-02274\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/policy\/docs\/quickfacts\/stat_snapshot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">7.4 million Americans<\/a>\u00a0who may be disabled or have limited resources getting monthly SSI benefit payments. About one-third of those SSI recipients also get a benefit from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/05\/15\/social-security-retirement-age-full-benefits\/83647872007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Social Security<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Adults who earn more than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/ssi\/eligibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$2,019 from work<\/a>\u00a0monthly, typically do not qualify for SSI.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Snider is a national trending news reporter for USA TODAY.
