{"id":186428,"date":"2025-08-30T04:50:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T04:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/186428\/"},"modified":"2025-08-30T04:50:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T04:50:11","slug":"transportation-secretary-withdraws-679m-in-funding-for-offshore-wind-projects-including-3-in-ny-nj-and-ct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/186428\/","title":{"rendered":"Transportation Secretary withdraws $679M in funding for offshore wind projects \u2013 including 3 in NY, NJ and CT\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Friday that $679 million in federal funding has been withdrawn for 12 \u201cdoomed\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/17\/us-news\/new-york-halts-offshore-wind-power-lines-citing-trump-opposition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">offshore wind projects<\/a> \u2013 including three in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>The scrapped funding includes $10.5 million for Connecticut\u2019s Bridgeport Port Authority Operations and Maintenance Wind Port project, $20.5 million for New Jersey\u2019s Wind Port at Paulsboro and $48 million for Staten Island\u2019s Arthur Kill Terminal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration plans to spend the withdrawn funds on \u201creal infrastructure\u201d and \u201crestoring American maritime dominance.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President Trump halted permitting for offshore wind projects earlier this year. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWasteful, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/15\/us-news\/nyc-fishermen-beg-trump-to-rethink-offshore-windfarm-okd-during-biden-admin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wind projects<\/a> are using resources that could otherwise go towards revitalizing America\u2019s maritime industry,\u201d Duffy said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportation.gov\/briefing-room\/trumps-transportation-secretary-sean-p-duffy-terminates-and-withdraws-679-million\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/13\/us-news\/sean-duffy-details-31-5b-air-traffic-improvements-to-pod-force-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transportation secretary<\/a> went on to slam his predecessor at the agency and the previous president for directing taxpayer dollars to projects \u201cthat cost much and offer little.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoe Biden and Pete Buttigieg bent over backwards to use transportation dollars for their Green New Scam agenda while ignoring the dire needs of our shipbuilding industry,\u201d Duffy said. \u201cThanks to President Trump, we are prioritizing real infrastructure improvements over fantasy wind projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At a White House Cabinet meeting earlier this week, President Trump fumed that wind projects were \u201cruining our country.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not allowing any windmills to go up,\u201d the president said. \u201cThey\u2019re ruining our country. They\u2019re ugly, they don\u2019t work, they kill your birds. They\u2019re bad for the environment.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Transportation said the projects did align with Trump administration\u2019s goals. AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if you look at them from a house, your house is worth less than 50%,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>New Jersey\u2019s offshore wind plans have been in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/11\/01\/news\/biden-backed-wind-power-company-cancels-new-jersey-projects-despite-1b-in-subsidies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disarray since 2023<\/a>, when Orsted, a Danish green energy company, pulled the plug on two wind projects off the Garden State coast, despite having been approved for $1 billion in taxpayer-funded subsidies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>In Paulsboro, more than a dozen 400-foot-long steel pipes \u2013 that would\u2019ve served as the foundations for massive offshore wind turbines \u2013 were already being sold as scrap metal late last year, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/gloucester-county\/2024\/11\/massive-offshore-wind-monopiles-are-being-scrapped-at-nj-wind-port-mayor-says.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NJ Advance Media<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Construction on Staten Island\u2019s Arthur Kill Terminal hasn\u2019t even started, despite the project being in the works for the last five years, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/climate\/2025\/05\/gov-hochul-suing-trump-admin-for-pausing-of-wind-energy-development-including-si-project.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SI Advance Media <\/a>reported earlier this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Arthur Kill Terminal is envisioned to function as a specialized port able to assemble offshore wind turbines and towers before they\u2019re brought out to sea.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump has been an outspoken critic of offshore wind projects.
