She was 57 years old.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDel Rio\u2019s death was confirmed through the Los Angeles Coroner\u2019s Office. No further details about her death are currently available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLynch was first introduced to Del Rio by their mutual CAA agent Brian Loucks in the mid-\u201990s. The singer was working under a country record deal in Nashville, Tenn., which she had landed off of her recording of \u201cLlorando,\u201d a Spanish-language cover of Roy Orbison\u2019s \u201cCrying.\u201d Upon their meeting, Lynch asked Del Rio to perform the number and covertly recorded her. The performance became the basis for the Club Silencio scene, an addition by Lynch to his by-then-rejected ABC pilot \u201cMulholland Drive,\u201d which he was reworking into a feature film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Silencio sequence marks a reality-shattering crescendo to Lynch\u2019s film \u2014\u00a0and an emotional crest, with leads Naomi Watts and Laura Harring both bursting into tears while viewing Del Rio\u2019s performance in the cavernous club. While the sequence ends with Del Rio\u2019s character fainting, revealing that she had been lip-syncing, the singer belted out the number for every take while filming.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThere were many takes. And with every take, I sang along, because I felt I had to produce that same feeling with the vibrato in my throat so the audience could see it,\u201d Del Rio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/features\/general\/rebekah-del-rio-llorando-mulholland-drive-david-lynch-1234715066\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told IndieWire<\/a> in a 2022 interview. I also wanted the beautiful girls in the balcony, [the film\u2019s stars] Laura Harring and Naomi Watts, to experience it live. They were present while I was doing my scene, so I sang to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe brief but memorable performance put Del Rio on the map in the film industry. She was called upon by writer-director Richard Kelly for his star-studded 2006 sci-fi dystopia \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/southland-tales\/\" id=\"auto-tag_southland-tales\" data-tag=\"southland-tales\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Southland Tales<\/a>,\u201d in which Del Rio sang \u201cThe Star-Spangled Banner\u201d during an apocalyptic final act. Her vocals can also be heard on the soundtracks for \u201cSin City,\u201d \u201cMan on Fire\u201d and \u201cStreets of Legend.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDel Rio\u2019s connection to Lynch continued through the rest of the filmmaker\u2019s career. (Lynch died in January at the age of 78.) She performed alongside Moby in one of the episode-capping roadhouse sequences of Showtime\u2019s revival series \u201cTwin Peaks: The Return.\u201d She also joined for touring performances of The Red Room Orchestra Plays the Music of Twin Peaks over recent years. Less than two weeks before her death, Del Rio performed live at a charity event \u201cMulholland Drive\u201d screening at the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBorn July 10, 1967 in Chula Vista, Calif., Del Rio began performing in San Diego before moving to Los Angeles. She<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/rebekahdelrio\/posts\/pfbid031jxXYtc25yXzE6qdzskrkapS6a15UsnXCcoiwAyb6qb9XMZTt9hBQtK9o6kE8xaSl\" target=\"_blank\"> had a son<\/a>, Phillip C. DeMars, in 1986.
