{"id":186509,"date":"2025-08-30T05:34:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T05:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/186509\/"},"modified":"2025-08-30T05:34:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T05:34:09","slug":"julia-roberts-andrew-garfield-shock-venice-at-after-the-hunt-premiere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/186509\/","title":{"rendered":"Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield Shock Venice at After the Hunt Premiere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/julia-roberts\/\" id=\"auto-tag_julia-roberts\" data-tag=\"julia-roberts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Julia Roberts<\/a> got emotional as her new movie, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/after-the-hunt\/\" id=\"auto-tag_after-the-hunt\" data-tag=\"after-the-hunt\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">After the Hunt<\/a>\u201d \u2014 Luca Guadagnino\u2019s drama in which she plays a troubled professor \u2014 wowed Venice on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Amazon MGM Studios release premiered on the Lido to a six-minute standing ovation.\u00a0As the clapping continued, Roberts wiped away tears, blew kisses to the crowd and hugged her director and co-stars Ayo Edebiri (who also teared up) and <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/andrew-garfield\/\" id=\"auto-tag_andrew-garfield\" data-tag=\"andrew-garfield\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Garfield<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tGuadagnino and Roberts both paused to sign autographs on the red carpet before entering the packed Sala Grande to cheers of \u201cJulia!\u201d and \u201cLuca!\u201d Garfield was also a fan favorite, taking selfies with the crowd while sporting a sharp blue suit and freshly-shaven look.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn \u201cAfter the Hunt,\u201d Roberts plays Alma Olsson, a revered Ivy League professor who is forced to grapple with her own secretive past after one of her colleagues is accused of crossing a line with her student. Garfield plays Henrik \u201cHank\u201d Gibson, the colleague of Roberts\u2019 character, and \u201cThe Bear\u201d breakout Edebiri is Maggie Price, Alma\u2019s prot\u00e9g\u00e9e who comes forward with the allegation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe R-rated film has already caused controversy on the Lido, with a heated press conference earlier on Friday leveling questions about the film\u2019s messaging around the #MeToo movement and cancel culture. Roberts <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/festivals\/julia-roberts-defends-after-the-hunt-metoo-questions-venice-1236501774\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">defended her latest work<\/a>, denying that \u201cAfter the Hunt\u201d is attempting to stoke controversy and lamenting that society is \u201closing the art of conversation in humanity right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re not making statements; we are portraying these people in this moment in time,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t know about controversy, per se, but we are challenging people to have conversation. To be excited or infuriated about it is up to you. If making this movie does anything, getting everybody to talk to each other is the most exciting thing that I think we could accomplish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cAfter the Hunt\u201d also stars Guadagnino regulars Michael Stuhlbarg and Chlo\u00eb Sevigny in supporting roles. The script was penned by Nora Garrett in her feature screenwriting debut. It was produced by Guadagnino, Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody and Allan Mandelbaum. Executive producers include Garrett, Karen Lunder, Justin Wilkes and Alice Dawson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tGuadagnino was just at <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/venice-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_venice-film-festival\" data-tag=\"venice-film-festival\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venice Film Festival<\/a> last year with \u201cQueer,\u201d his William S. Burroughs\u2019 adaptation starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey that premiered in competition. The period romantic drama earned a <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/festivals\/daniel-craig-venice-standing-ovation-queer-luca-guadagnino-1236119359\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nine-minute standing ovation<\/a>.
