Antony<\/strong><\/a>‘s proposed return to Real Betis<\/strong><\/a> has reportedly taken a dramatic turn after Manchester United<\/strong><\/a> accepted a bid from the Spanish club.<\/p>\n

The Brazilian spent the second half of last season with Los Verdiblancos after falling out of favour under Man United head coach Ruben Amorim<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Antony scored nine goals and provided five assists in 26 competitive appearances for Manuel Pellegrini<\/strong><\/a>‘s side, before he returned to Man United at the end of last season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The winger has been holding out for a return to Betis this summer, and a recent report<\/a><\/strong> suggested that he was set to get his way.<\/p>\n

Antony’s Man United exit at risk of falling through<\/p>\n

However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs<\/a>, Antony’s proposed move to the Spanish side took a ‘dramatic turn’ on Friday evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Man United accepted a proposal worth \u00a325m from Betis, with a 50% sell-on, before they gave the player permission to travel to Spain to complete the move.<\/p>\n

While Man United have given the green light, Betis believe they cannot meet Antony’s desired wage demands and are looking for the attacker to lower his salary expectations or for the Red Devils to ‘contribute’ to an exit package.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The update claims that it is currently ‘unclear’ whether Antony is willing to reduce his financial demands to secure a return to Betis.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As a result, the proposed deal will fall through unless all parties can come to a compromise before the transfer window closes on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Betis release Antony statement amid transfer uncertainty<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Betis are insisting that they have not agreed on any deal with Man United, and that their offer is no longer on the table due to the costs involved.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a statement relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Betis said:\u00a0\u201cThere is no agreement for Antony and we have withdrawn the offer.<\/p>\n

“We can’t afford the fee and the amounts that Manchester United must instead pay the player before the transfer.”<\/p>\n

The next three days will be crucial for Antony, who needs to find a new club before the end of the window; otherwise, there is a risk that he will not play any competitive football until the market reopens in January.\u00a0<\/p>\n
