A Los Angeles man was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of stealing about 60 feet of copper wiring \u2014 which prevented 911 calls from being answered in Arcadia.<\/p>\n
Police estimated the cost of the stolen wiring, on Aug. 7, and the repairs at $10,000.<\/p>\n
Officers saw the suspect in a vehicle in the 1700 block of Olympic Boulevard in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Aug. 27, police said.<\/p>\n
Police pulled him over, and he got out and ran.<\/p>\n
Officers chased and caught him in the 600 block of Rampart Boulevard.<\/p>\n
Jose Gante-Gomez, 44, was booked at the Arcadia Police Department on suspicion of grand theft and resisting a peace officer.<\/p>\n
Investigators didn\u2019t reveal how they identified the suspect and the vehicle connected to the theft.<\/p>\n
The Police Department\u2019s communications center \u201cexperienced a failure that prevented 911 calls from being answered\u201d around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 7, a police statement said.<\/p>\n
The 911 calls were re-routed to the Monrovia Police Department. By 7:15 p.m., service was fully restored.<\/p>\n
Underground communication lines that had copper wiring in the 200 block of South Santa Anita Avenue had been accessed.<\/p>\n
