PHOENIX \u2014 While meteorological summer ends on Sunday, temperatures are still above triple digits and causing problems on Valley trails.<\/p>\n
Two hikers suffering from heat exhaustion had to be rescued by firefighters on Camelback Mountain and South Mountain, respectively, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Both rescues occurred at 9:30 a.m. when temperatures were 93 degrees, showing that heat-related dangers can present themselves well before the hottest time of the day.<\/p>\n
Hiker rescued from South Mountain<\/p>\n
The first hiker was a man suffering from heat exhaustion who could not make it down South Mountain on his own.<\/p>\n
Despite cooling measures provided by medical personnel, the man had to be guided down the trail by a big wheel stretcher.<\/p>\n
He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.<\/p>\n
Hiker rescued on Camelback Mountain<\/p>\n
Rescue crews were simultaneously sent to the Echo Canyon Trail on Camelback Mountain for a woman who was suffering from a knee injury.<\/p>\n
Upon further evaluation, it was determined that she had overheated as well and could not make it back down the mountain.<\/p>\n
She was also guided down via big wheel stretcher and taken to the hospital in stable condition.<\/p>\n
