CHICAGO (WLS) — For most, the long Labor Day holiday weekend is a sign that summer will soon be over.<\/p>\n

But not everyone is ready for it to be.<\/p>\n

Chef Michael Airhart was one of the attractions at this year’s Teens in the Park event.<\/p>\n

“I think it looks really cool. I didn’t know what to expect because we’ve never been but it looks really fun,” said parent Shante Samuel.<\/p>\n

The Chicago Park District event along the lakefront offers families and the community summer fun and young performers a chance to showcase their talents.<\/p>\n

“Teens in the Park, we want them here. We want your kids here. We want you here,” said Temeszja Drummond with the Chicago Park District.<\/p>\n

This weekend marks the unofficial end of summer. The calendar says meteorological fall does not start until Sept. 22.<\/p>\n

Sunny skies and a warm breeze meant nearly perfect weather for anyone wanting to enjoy the last few moments of the season.<\/p>\n

Emma Bordogna is visiting from England and is excited about experiencing fireworks at Navy Pier for the first time.<\/p>\n

“Really good. There’s lots of events. I’m here visiting friends who’ve got the day off, so that’s always nice. I appreciate being able to spend some time with them when I come over,” Bordogna said.<\/p>\n

The holiday weekend’s farewell also includes plenty of festivals and neighborhood gatherings around the city.<\/p>\n

And while most opted to take a walk or bike ride along the lakefront, one group of ladies had their own celebration.<\/p>\n

“We’re actually celebrating a friend’s birthday. The weather’s nice. It feels good and we’re traveling from out of town. Just a fun way to end the summer,” said party-goer Sheree Lemelle.<\/p>\n

On a weekend when many are getting out of town, some are just relaxing in the moment.<\/p>\n

“Enjoy life. Life is too short,” said party-goer Dana Wiltz.<\/p>\n
