\n\tWith multiple projects in the pipeline for the newly constructed DCU<\/a>, James Gunn<\/a> is assuring fans that, among them, is a long-gestating series focused on Task Force X leader Amanda Waller, originated onscreen by Oscar winner Viola Davis<\/a> in 2016\u2019s Suicide Squad.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpeaking to People in a recent interview<\/a>, the Superman helmer confirmed he and DC Studios<\/a> co-CEO Peter Safran are still \u201cworking on\u201d the show.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe said, \u201cWe\u2019re working on it, so we\u2019ll see what happens. Some things have moved faster than others. Waller\u2019s not been the fastest. But I can\u2019t wait to see Viola put on their Waller pants again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGunn is echoing sentiments both he and Safran expressed back in February<\/a>, telling Deadline then that\u00a0Waller<\/a> \u2014 about the amoral U.S. government espionage director who dispatches the criminal misfit Suicide Squad team on missions \u2014 remains in the works, despite the project remaining difficult to break.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve taken a couple of cracks at\u00a0Waller, and we haven\u2019t been able to land it,\u201d Safran said at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re still working on it,\u201d Gunn added, also noting the duo had to prioritize another spinoff, Peacemaker. \u201cWaller\u00a0has been tough, the strike was tough on\u00a0Waller, there was a certain amount time that we needed to do\u00a0Peacemaker\u00a0first.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe were going to go with\u00a0Waller\u00a0before\u00a0Peacemaker\u00a0[Season 2], but I wrote\u00a0Peacemaker\u00a0quickly and we were ready to go,\u201d Gunn concluded.<\/p>\n

\n\tDavis played Waller in David Ayer\u2019s Suicide Squad and its sequel, 2021\u2019s The Suicide Squad, from Gunn. News of the Waller spinoff was first announced back in 2022<\/a>, revealed at the time to feature Watchmen\u00a0writer Christal Henry as scribe and executive producer alongside Davis. While Peacemaker is a comedy, Waller would fall into the drama category; Davis reprised the character in Peacemaker Season 1. <\/p>\n

\n\tA year later, it was announced Doom Patrol\u00a0creator Jeremy Carver would join Henry to co-write\u00a0Waller<\/a>.<\/p>\n
