A baby girl was clinging to life Saturday after allegedly being punched in the head by a Bronx man, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jerome Thomas, 19, was hit with first-degree assault and\u00a0child endangerment charges<\/a>\u00a0for allegedly slamming his closed fist into the one-year-old\u2019s head inside a Woodstock apartment around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, cops said.<\/p>\n

When police responded to a call about someone needing help, they allegedly found Thomas, a 25-year-old woman and the\u00a0battered baby<\/a>, who was semi-conscious, inside the Union Avenue apartment, authorities said Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The infant was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear whether the woman or Thomas are the baby\u2019s biological parents, or what the relationship was between the two adults, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

NYPD detectives were seen hauling evidence bags out of the apartment Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Neighbor Nicole LaCroix said the trio was new to the building, and she was under the impression Thomas and the woman were dating.<\/p>\n

\u201cI spent a little time with the mother, and I guess the boyfriend one night, just because they were new to the area, and we were just showing them where some of the stores are and different things like that. Being helpful, as a neighbor, because I\u2019m a little older than the young lady,\u201d said LaCroix, who recalled spending time with\u00a0the infant<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI held the baby, you know, because we spent a little time with each other. She was playing with my phone \u2013 she was an active one year old.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

LaCroix said her daughter heard \u201carguments\u201d coming from the trio\u2019s apartment, and she wished she would have \u201cstepped in and helped.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Another neighbor, Anthony, confirmed the couple fought often, and claimed the woman once tossed his clothes out into the hallway during an argument.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThey fight every night. [I\u2019ve heard] them argue every night since they moved here\u2026 \u2018F\u2013k you, b\u2013ch.\u2019 And \u2018Get the f\u2013k out.\u2019 Several times she put his clothes out, but they\u2019d be back together the same day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthony said the couple\u2019s fighting Thursday night roused him from sleep.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thomas pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court Saturday, where a judge ordered him remanded without bail.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His next court date is Sept. 4.<\/p>\n
