<\/p>\nA Vancouver woman is recovering in hospital with a broken leg after falling 18 metres down a mountainside near Squamish.<\/p>\n

36-year-old Margaux Cohen, an avid hiker who documents her adventures on social media<\/a>, had just finished summiting Tricouni Peak with her friend Max, her dog Zion and her friend\u2019s cousin before the incident happened.<\/p>\n The group was climbing down from the peak when they found themselves struggling to find the trail.<\/p>\n \u201cWe saw that the trail was just across a little wall,\u201d she told Global News from her hospital bed at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver.<\/p>\n \u201cWe assessed the situation. The wall, can we down-climb it? Is it hard or anything? We decided that it was a pretty easy down-climb compared to things I usually do.\u201d<\/p>\n However, Cohen\u2019s dog slipped off a ledge while the group was climbing down. Cohen grabbed him, but the impact caused her to fall.<\/p>\n Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n She hit her head multiple times while tumbling down the mountainside before landing on a flat rock surface and breaking her leg.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\tGet daily National news<\/p>\n Get the day’s top news, political, economic, and current affairs headlines, delivered to your inbox once a day.<\/p>\n \u201cI did not lose consciousness at all, which, to be honest, I would have preferred because I remember everything of my fall,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201c<\/strong>I didn\u2019t break my nose, but because I hit my nose on rocks like three times obviously it was bleeding a lot. My face started to swell. I was so swollen. I looked at my leg and I was like, \u2018there is something really wrong with my leg, it\u2019s not the right shape anymore.\u2019 I started screaming. The bigger story is \u2018beneath the hood\u2019: experts\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n \u201c<\/strong>I don\u2019t think it\u2019s a really long time, but when it\u2019s as hot as it was last Sunday and there\u2019s no shade and you\u2019re on rocks and you\u2019re injured, it\u2019s really a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n Doctors at Lions Gate performed surgery on Cohen\u2019s leg and are planning for a second operation. Despite her leg injury, she appears to have avoided any serious injuries to her head or vital organs. Her dog also emerged unscathed.<\/p>\n \u201cI just believe that someone was watching over me that day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m definitely really grateful that Max was there with me because he\u2019s one of my best friends and he handled the situation perfectly. I\u2019m obviously really grateful for Search and Rescue as well because I think they always do an amazing job. I love Search and Rescue \u2013 I\u2019ve been watching their series online and I love what they do.
