{"id":189357,"date":"2025-08-31T12:54:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-31T12:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/189357\/"},"modified":"2025-08-31T12:54:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-31T12:54:18","slug":"accenture-ceo-weighs-in-on-why-so-many-ai-projects-have-failed-with-3-red-flags-to-watch-out-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/189357\/","title":{"rendered":"Accenture CEO weighs in on why so many AI projects have failed with 3 red flags to watch out for"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Throughout her life, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/accenture\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/accenture\/\" class=\"sc-4f49155c-0 hLtviE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Accenture<\/a> CEO Julie Sweet hasn\u2019t been afraid to throw out the playbook, and, in the age of AI, both she and her Fortune 500 clients are in the middle of another reinvention.<\/p>\n<p>Going into her freshman year at Claremont McKenna College, Sweet, who grew up in a middle class Tustin, Calif. family, decided to study international relations and learn Chinese. Then, after a 17-year law career which saw her become the first woman partner at her firm, she took a leap to Accenture and tech consulting where she would eventually earn the top job\u2014even though she knew nothing about technology at first.<\/p>\n<p>As the rapid development of AI has upended the business world and has touched everything from the customer to the front office, Sweet, Accenture\u2019s first woman CEO and chair of the board, says companies also have to reinvent themselves from top to bottom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn order to capture the opportunity with AI, you really have to be willing to rewire your company,\u201d Sweet told Fortune Editor-in-Chief Alyson Shontell on the inaugural episode of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8o6fBvBTT18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8o6fBvBTT18\" class=\"sc-4f49155c-0 hLtviE\">Fortune 500 Titans and Disruptors of Industry<\/a> podcast. \u201cMany times, when clients are saying, we\u2019re not getting a lot out of AI, it\u2019s because they\u2019re trying to apply it to how they operate today.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rewiring, as Sweet describes it, means abandoning the mindset of business as usual.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Red flags she sees for AI adoption<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Applying legacy process. <\/strong>Her first red flag is if companies immediately want to tackle AI using the same old methods they\u2019ve always used to tackle problems. \u201cThings like cross functional steering committees; big red flag,\u201d she said. \u201cYou have to actually change how you\u2019re doing it.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Too much focus on projects that don\u2019t move the needle, like collaboration: <\/strong>While working together is essential in business, reinventing a company for AI isn\u2019t an excuse for more meetings because collaboration isn\u2019t a business strategy, she said. \u201cWhen the answer to using AI is to collaborate more; another big red flag.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jumping into impractical AI projects:<\/strong> Sweet personally uses the technology to summarize data and build out PowerPoints, among other uses, but she notes: \u201cthat\u2019s not going to change my bottom line.\u201d Financial considerations and a clear strategy need to take precedence. \u201cThis isn\u2019t about using AI on top of what you do today,\u201d Sweet said. \u201cIf you\u2019re not significantly changing the way you operate, then you\u2019re not reinventing, and you\u2019re not going to capture the value.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Accenture, itself, has already committed <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.accenture.com\/news\/2023\/accenture-to-invest-3-billion-in-ai-to-accelerate-clients-reinvention\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/newsroom.accenture.com\/news\/2023\/accenture-to-invest-3-billion-in-ai-to-accelerate-clients-reinvention\" class=\"sc-4f49155c-0 hLtviE\">$3 billion<\/a> to building out its data and AI practice, and has pledged to add 80,000 AI-focused employees to its already robust 770,000-plus workforce. The firm has completed more than 2,000 generative AI projects in this fiscal year alone, and Sweet said Accenture\u2019s clients continue to come to them for their industry and technical knowledge, but also their data and technology.<\/p>\n<p>Sweet said the AI revolution needs to be led by executives, who are on the pulse of AI.
