Such payments will be issued on the weekday immediately prior to your expected payment date[0]. <\/p>\n<p>What if my Social Security payment doesn\u2019t arrive by the expected date?<\/p>\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">Federal law states that <a class=\"_28z5Fp _2JIHTU vLzrnO _3mJuQ4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nerdwallet.com\/article\/investing\/social-security\/social-security\" data-currency=\"Link\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Social Security benefits<\/a> (and all other federal benefits) must be paid electronically through direct deposit to your bank account or onto a Direct Express Debit Mastercard \u2014 with only a few rare exceptions[0]. <\/p>\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">Although electronic payment should virtually eliminate the risk of lost or stolen funds, delays and other issues can still happen. That\u2019s why it\u2019s still important to know what to do if your Social Security payment doesn\u2019t turn up when you expect it.<\/p>\n<ol data-currency=\"List\" class=\"_12QZXE\">\n<li class=\"_3ho7K- _1pCihN olf-Ig\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">If your electronic payment is late, reach out to your bank or financial institution first.
