Brooklyn, New York, USA –\u00a0Pan
\n\t\tEvolution Steel Orchestra<\/a> ably defended
\n\t\tits 2024 championship<\/a>
\n\t\tby taking a consecutive title in the 2025 New York Panorama. Playing in the
\n\t\tpenultimate position of the eight competing steel orchestras – the band
\n\t\taffectionately known as \u2018PESO\u2019 delivered a strong and decisive
\n\t\tperformance of
\n\t\t\t\t\tAndr\u00e9
\n\t\tWhite\u2019s<\/a> champion arrangement of
\n\t\tToo Own Way by \u201cVoice.\u201d <\/p>\n

This is another excellent year for Andr\u00e9, who is fresh off
\n\t\t
\n\t\tleading another steel orchestra to the number one position<\/a> – the
\n\t\tUK\u2019s Mangrove Steel Orchestra<\/a>
\n\t\t– just one week ago, last Saturday August 23.\u00a0 A few days later, success yet again,
\n\t\tthis time in his hometown of New York, with a band where he has been the
\n\t\tresident arranger for the past ten years. And – the same scenario played
\n\t\tout last year, 2024: Mangrove was also the champion steel orchestra
\n\t\tworking with Andr\u00e9, who then returned home to lead Pan Evolution to
\n\t\tits first New York championship. This is Andr\u00e9’s fifth Panorama
\n\t\tchampionship in New York.<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\tWayne Bernard<\/a> has had musical dividends pay off through
\n\t\tsheer hard work and determination since founding Pan Evolution in 2015.
\n\t\tThe sounds of the steel orchestra are sweet success, resonating with this Panorama
\n\t\tvictory, for both Bernard and his family who manage the music
\n\t\torganization. What a way to celebrate a tenth anniversary year!<\/p>\n

A gorgeous and cool Saturday evening was the backdrop to
\n\t\tan evening showcasing the sounds of scintillating steel orchestras in
\n\t\tBrooklyn. Eight bands came together under the bright lights on stage at
\n\t\tthe back of the Brooklyn Museum on Saturday August 30, 2025 for the
\n\t\tannual steelband music competition, Panorama, organized by event promoter
\n\t\t
\n\t\tW.I.A.D.C.A.<\/a> (West Indian American Day Carnival Association).<\/p>\n

\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPhiladelphia (Philly) Pan Stars Steel
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOrchestra<\/a> was back for the New
\n\t\tYork competition, and did even better this year – coming in second, up
\n\t\tone
\n\t\tspot from last year. Arranger
\n\t\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\tRoger Greenidge<\/a> worked with the band for this second
\n\t\tconsecutive season. Philadelphia Pan Stars players, and manager and
\n\t\tfounder
\n\tRondell Pompey<\/a>
\n\t\tare probably pleased, and may even be already looking forward to 2026.<\/p>\n

There were two \u201cfirst-timers\u201d this year. For
\n\t\tPanAlley Steel Orchestra<\/a>
\n\t\tfounded and led by Travis Roberts, this was the band\u2019s inaugural
\n\t\tparticipation in the competition. Its arranger was
\n\t\t\t\t\tMarc
\n\t\t\t\t\tBrooks<\/a> and with
\n\t\tToo Own Way as tune of choice, PanAlley was one of three bands
\n\t\tcompeting with that selection. PanAlley also did very well for its first
\n\t\ttime, tying with D\u2019Radoes Steel Orchestra for third place.<\/p>\n

The other first-timer was
\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\tVanessa Headley-Brewster<\/a> as she is now the first female
\n\t\tarranger in the annual New York Panorama, and worked with Metro Steel
\n\t\tOrchestra. It was a leap forward for Women in Pan in
\n\t\tNew York\u2019s steelband world. Vanessa herself has two championships in Trinidad & Tobago\u2019s Panorama, in the
\n\t\tsmall steel orchestra category in
\n\t\t\t\t2018<\/a> and
\n\t\t\t\t2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After weeks of dedicated practice (sometimes after a
\n\t\tfull work-day for many), and travails ranging from finding a panyard to
\n\t\tpractice in at the last minute, to not coming out at all [Pan
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn Motion<\/a>] due to not finding one,
\n\t\tto bands not being able to field enough musicians –
\n\t\tanother Panorama season has come to an end in New York. Kudos to all
\n\t\tthose who participated and contributed – every single player, the entire
\n\t\tpan community, overall supporters of the steelband art form – and all
\n\t\tthose who put in untold and unknown sacrifices simply to get the steel
\n\t\torchestras to the stage to participate in Panorama. As some might say:
\n\t\t\u201cthe struggle continues.\u201d <\/p>\n
