The Caterpillar Foundation has surpassed $1 billion in global giving in a milestone 73 years in the making.<\/strong><\/p>\n The philanthropic arm of Irving-based Caterpillar Inc. said the achievement reflects decades of impact aimed at strengthening communities, building resilient infrastructure, and expanding workforce opportunity around the world.<\/p>\n \u201cThis milestone is a powerful reminder of what\u2019s possible when purpose meets passion,\u201d said Asha Varghese, president of the foundation, in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s a testament to the grantees we support, the passion of Caterpillar employees and retirees, and the leadership of the foundation\u2019s board.\u201d<\/p>\n The foundation began with a single donation to a firehouse in East Peoria, Illinois, in 1952. Since then, it has grown to support more than 11,000 organizations in 110 countries across six continents.<\/p>\n Over time, the foundation\u2019s strategy has evolved. Early grants focused on expanding hospitals and workforce training for people with disabilities. Later efforts centered on strengthening technical school and community college curricula for students and teachers\u2014a priority the foundation says it still champions today.<\/p>\n Current initiatives support programs in workforce readiness, STEM education, sustainable infrastructure, basic services access, and disaster preparedness and recovery.<\/p>\n The foundation said its mission remains focused on building thriving communities by investing in the natural and vital infrastructure people rely on\u2014and ensuring individuals are equipped to succeed in the jobs of tomorrow.<\/p>\n Caterpillar relocated its global headquarters to Irving in 2022, making a move from Illinois to North Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\n Don\u2019t miss what\u2019s next.
