Townsend, after a heated run-in<\/a> and a huge upset<\/a> to reach the fourth round in New York, fell to Czechia\u2019s Barbora Krej\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1 on Sunday afternoon. Krej\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1 rallied back after a brutal opening set to grab a 1-6, 7-6 (15-13), 6-3 win over Townsend and reach the quarterfinals. Krej\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1 saved an incredible seven match points throughout the tiebreak. Had she dropped a single one, Townsend would be moving onto the next round.<\/p>\n Krej\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1 jumped up 4-2 in the final set, too, seemingly having stolen all of Townsend’s early-match momentum away. Though Townsend broke her in the seventh game to keep hope alive, the last push came too late. The 29-year-old has won two Grand Slam titles in her career, most recently at Wimbledon last summer.
