The Blue Whale will remain closed for the renovations, which are expected to last several months. The\u00a0city says gifts and souvenirs may still be purchased at the D.W. Correll Museum in Catoosa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Future of the Blue Whale<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The city broke ground in June on a brand-new visitor&#8217;s center. Starting September 2nd, work begins on the long-anticipated project, which will also add new restrooms and a play area &#8211; all designed to enhance the experience for travelers along the Mother Road. The city hopes to have the renovations complete by the summer of 2026, so it will be ready in time for the Route 66 centennial celebration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Visitors from Out of State<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 80-foot-long whale has been a favorite for road-trippers since the 1970s &#8211; drawing hundreds of thousands each year, and already a bunch of visitors this Labor Day weekend.
